— Why Sound Doctrine Produces Stability
We live in a time where believers are constantly being pulled in different directions.
One voice says:
“Go back under law.”
Another says:
“Signs and experiences matter more than doctrine.”
Another says:
“Paul’s gospel isn’t enough.”
The result?
Many become moved away from the simplicity that is in Christ.
But Paul gives a different exhortation:
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV
Notice:
Stedfast.
Unmoveable.
Always abounding.
This is not passive Christianity.
This is a believer rooted in truth.
▪︎ WHAT IS THE “THEREFORE” THERE FOR?
1 Corinthians 15:58 comes after Paul’s great chapter on:
• Christ’s resurrection
• The believer’s resurrection
• The mystery of our change
• Victory over death
Paul says:
“Behold, I shew you a mystery…”
— 1 Corinthians 15:51 KJV
Then:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:54 KJV
Then:
“Therefore…”
The command to be steadfast rests upon what Christ accomplished.
You are stable because:
Christ died.
Christ was buried.
Christ rose again.
And one day—
Members of the Body of Christ will be changed.
That is hope.
That is stability.
▪︎ STEDFAST IN WHAT?
Not steadfast in tradition.
Not steadfast in denominational loyalty.
Not steadfast in emotional experiences.
Paul repeatedly warns believers to stand in sound doctrine.
“Stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free…”
— Galatians 5:1 KJV
Grace believers stand in:
• the gospel of grace (1 Cor. 15:1–4)
• their identity in Christ
• the revelation of the mystery
• liberty, not law
Because instability often comes from mixing programs God separated.
Mix prophecy and mystery—
Confusion follows.
Mix law and grace—
Bondage follows.
Mix Israel’s instructions with the Body of Christ—
Contradictions appear.
That is why:
“Study… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
▪︎ “UNMOVEABLE” DOES NOT MEAN STUBBORN
Being unmoveable is not refusing correction.
It means refusing to be carried away from truth.
Paul warns:
“…be not soon shaken in mind…”
— 2 Thessalonians 2:2 KJV
A believer grounded in grace is not easily tossed around by:
• religious pressure
• legalism
• performance-based acceptance
• confusion about God’s programs
Because he knows:
His standing is in Christ.
▪︎ “ALWAYS ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF THE LORD”
Notice Paul does not stop at doctrine.
Truth produces labor.
Grace produces service.
Not to earn salvation—
But because salvation is already secured.
We do not work for acceptance.
We work from acceptance.
That changes everything.
Service becomes:
• grateful participation
• ministry investment
• labor with eternal purpose
Paul says:
“…your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
Think about that.
The world forgets.
People overlook.
Results seem small.
Yet God says:
Not in vain.
Nothing done in Christ is wasted.
▪︎ WHY THIS MATTERS TODAY
The Dispensation of Grace will not last forever.
The Body of Christ has a heavenly calling.
The mystery program has an appointed conclusion.
Until then—
Paul’s exhortation remains:
Be steadfast.
In grace.
In sound doctrine.
In your identity in Christ.
Be unmoveable.
When trends shift.
When pressure comes.
When religion tries to put you back under law.
Always abound.
Because eternity is real.
And your labor matters.
Remember:
Your stability is not built on your consistency—
It is built on Christ’s finished work.
And because He is faithful—
You can stand.
“Therefore… be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord…”
— 1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV
What helps believers remain steadfast and unmoveable in a world full of doctrinal confusion?
