We talk a lot about doctrine—and we should.
But here’s a question worth asking:
What does sound doctrine produce in your life?
According to Paul… it produces charity.
▪️CHARITY IS NOT JUST LOVE—IT IS THE LIFE OF CHRIST ON DISPLAY
“And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” (Colossians 3:14 KJV)
Charity is not just emotion.
It is the binding force that holds the Body of Christ together.
It is the visible evidence that truth is not just known… but believed.
▪️CHARITY HAS A SHAPE—AND YOU CAN SEE IT
In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul doesn’t define charity with theory.
He shows it in action.
Almost like describing a person.
A life.
A pattern to follow.
▪️THE TWO FOUNDATIONS OF CHARITY
“Charity suffereth long, and is kind…” (1 Corinthians 13:4 KJV)
Everything begins here:
• Longsuffering – enduring people, not just problems
• Kindness – responding with grace, not retaliation
This is where it gets real.
It’s one thing to be patient with circumstances…
It’s another thing to be patient with people who hurt you.
▪️WHAT CHARITY REFUSES TO DO
Charity is just as much about what it avoids as what it expresses:
• It does not envy
• It does not boast
• It is not proud
• It does not rejoice in sin
This cuts against the grain of the world—and even religion.
Because the flesh always wants recognition, revenge, or superiority.
▪️WHAT CHARITY CONTINUES TO DO
“Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:7 KJV)
Charity doesn’t quit.
• It keeps going
• It keeps believing
• It keeps hoping
Not because people deserve it…
But because Christ is working in you.
▪️CHARITY NEVER FAILS
“Charity never faileth…” (1 Corinthians 13:8 KJV)
Gifts will cease.
Knowledge will fade.
But charity?
It is eternal.
It belongs to who you are in Christ.
▪️DON’T CONFUSE KNOWLEDGE WITH MATURITY
You can rightly divide…
You can understand Paul’s apostleship…
You can defend the Gospel of Grace…
And still struggle to let charity govern your responses.
Truth must move from the page… into the heart.
▪️GRACE IS THE SOURCE OF CHARITY
When you understand the Gospel:
“How that Christ died for our sins… was buried, and… rose again the third day.” (1 Corinthians 15:1–4 KJV)
You realize:
• You were forgiven completely
• You were accepted freely
• You were given grace abundantly
And that same grace…
Is what you now extend to others.
▪️A DIFFERENT CULTURE
The world (2 Timothy 3) is marked by:
• Self-love
• Pride
• Harshness
But the Body of Christ is designed to reflect something different:
• Tenderness
• Forgiveness
• Charity
That only happens when the Word of God softens the heart.
▪️Conclusion:
Charity is not optional.
It is not secondary.
It is the evidence of Christ living in you.
So yes—rightly divide.
Stand on sound doctrine.
But don’t stop there.
Let charity be the thing people actually see.
