— Or Is Christ Enough?
This is one of the most misunderstood questions in Christianity today.
It sounds right.
It sounds spiritual.
It sounds serious.
👉 “You must turn from your sins to be saved.”
But is that what the Bible actually teaches—
especially in this present Dispensation of Grace?
Let’s slow down… and let Scripture speak.
▪️THE PROBLEM WITH ADDING CONDITIONS
At first glance, it seems reasonable:
“Stop sinning, then God will save you.”
But think about it honestly.
How much sin must you turn from?
All of it? Most of it? Enough of it?
And for how long?
A day? A week? A lifetime?
👉 That standard becomes impossible.
Because the truth is:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
— Romans 3:23 (KJV)
If salvation depends on you cleaning up your life first…
👉 then no one qualifies.
▪️GRACE AND WORKS CANNOT MIX
Paul makes it crystal clear:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works…”
— Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV)
Grace means:
• It’s a gift
• It’s undeserved
• It’s not earned
The moment you say:
👉 “You must stop sinning to be saved”
You have turned salvation into a performance.
Even if it sounds spiritual…
👉 it is still a work.
▪️WHAT ABOUT REPENTANCE?
Here’s where confusion often enters.
Many define repentance as:
👉 “Turning from sin”
But when you follow Paul’s gospel, repentance in salvation is about:
👉 a change of mind
👉 a response of faith toward Christ
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”
— Acts 16:31 (KJV)
It is not:
• Cleaning up your life first
• Promising to do better
• Reforming your behavior to earn acceptance
It is:
👉 Believing what Christ has already done
▪️THE DEBT YOU CANNOT PAY
Think of it this way:
You’ve accumulated a lifetime of sin—like an unpayable debt.
Now imagine saying:
“I’ll stop adding more debt.”
That’s good…
But it doesn’t erase what’s already there.
👉 The balance remains.
That’s why Christ came.
“Christ died for our sins… was buried… and rose again…”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 (KJV)
He didn’t come to help you manage your sin.
👉 He came to pay for it completely.
▪️WHAT SAVES YOU?
Not your effort.
Not your reform.
Not your promises.
👉 The finished work of Christ.
“To him that worketh not, but believeth…”
— Romans 4:5 (KJV)
Read that again.
Worketh not… but believeth.
That’s grace.
▪️DOES THAT MEAN SIN DOESN’T MATTER?
No—sin matters deeply.
But here’s the order:
• Salvation comes first
• Transformation follows
You don’t turn from sin to be saved…
👉 You grow and walk differently because you are saved.
Conclusion:
Don’t let religion make salvation complicated.
Don’t let man add what God never required.
You are not saved by:
• turning over a new leaf
• cleaning up your life
• trying harder
You are saved by:
👉 trusting Christ alone.
And when you do—
Forgiveness is complete.
Righteousness is given.
Eternal life is secured.
Christ is enough.
His cross is enough.
Your faith in Him is enough.
