— 1 Corinthians 3:13 (KJV)
“Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it… because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.”
There is a day coming.
Not a day of wrath.
Not a day of condemnation.
But a day of revelation.
A day when the Lord Jesus Christ will examine the work of those who are saved—members of the Body of Christ.
This is not about whether you are saved.
That issue was settled the moment you trusted the gospel of the grace of God (1 Corinthians 15:1–4).
This is about something else.
Something deeper.
Something often overlooked.
👉 “Every man’s work…”
Not your sin.
Not your past.
Not your failures.
But your work.
What you built.
How you served.
Why you did it.
Paul tells us in this same passage:
“Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble” (1 Corinthians 3:12)
The foundation is already laid—
Jesus Christ. (v.11)
So the question is not:
• Do you have a foundation?
• What are you building on it?
“The fire shall try every man’s work…”
Fire doesn’t test appearance.
Fire reveals substance.
• Wood burns.
• Hay disappears.
• Stubble vanishes.
But:
• Gold endures.
• Silver remains.
• Precious stones shine brighter.
So what makes the difference?
Not effort alone.
Not sincerity alone.
Not religious activity.
The difference is whether your work is built according to the revelation given to Paul—the dispensation of the grace of God (Ephesians 3:1–3).
You can be busy… and still build wood.
You can be sincere… and still build hay.
You can be active… and still build stubble.
But when you labor:
• Grounded in grace
• Rooted in sound doctrine
• Rightly dividing the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15)
• Serving from who you are in Christ
—then you are building something eternal.
“Every man’s work shall be made manifest…”
It will be revealed.
Not hidden.
Not assumed.
Not exaggerated.
Declared.
Clear.
Open.
Honest.
Before the One who saved you.
And here is the sobering truth:
Some works will remain.
Some works will burn.
“ If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved…” (1 Corinthians 3:15)
Saved—yes.
Secure—yes.
But loss—also yes.
So what do we do with this?
We don’t fear.
We don’t strive in the flesh.
We don’t perform for men.
We build wisely.
We build with:
• Truth, not tradition
• Grace, not law
• Doctrine, not emotion
• Christ as our life, not self-effort
Let this settle in your heart:
👉 Your salvation is secure.
👉 Your standing is complete.
👉 But your work matters.
It matters now.
It will matter then.
So keep going.
Keep learning the Word rightly divided.
Keep serving out of grace.
Keep building on Christ—the right way.
Because one day…
“the day shall declare it.”
And what remains…
will last forever.
