We live in the Dispensation of the Grace of God (Ephesians 3:2).
But let’s clear up a common misunderstanding:
God did not suddenly become gracious in Acts 9.
Grace did not begin with Paul.
And no one was ever saved by works.
▪️What Makes Today Unique?
Paul says the present dispensation was:
“Made known… by revelation.” (Ephesians 3:3)
Something hidden before.
Now revealed.
Today:
• Jew and Gentile are fellowheirs
• One Body is formed
• No distinction in standing
• Direct access in Christ
That was not made known in time past.
This is the mystery program.
Not prophecy fulfilled.
Mystery revealed.
▪️Paul’s Distinct Apostleship
Paul received his message directly from the risen Christ (Galatians 1:11–12).
His epistles begin with:
“Grace and peace…”
Not war and wrath.
Because instead of the prophesied judgment falling,
there is a delay.
A pause.
An interruption in Israel’s prophetic timeline (Romans 11:25).
Grace is reigning where wrath was expected.
That’s not a small detail.
That’s dispensational clarity.
▪️But Was God Gracious Before?
Absolutely.
Let’s walk through Scripture.
▪️Adam and Eve
After the fall, God clothed them with coats of skins (Genesis 3:21).
Blood was shed.
Covering was provided.
That’s grace.
▪️Noah
“Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” (Genesis 6:8)
Delivered from judgment.
Saved through the ark.
Grace was present.
▪️Under the Law
The Law declared guilt.
But God also provided sacrifices.
Atonement.
Forgiveness.
Even within a system that exposed sin — grace made provision.
▪️Jonah and Nineveh
Jonah knew God was:
“Gracious… merciful… slow to anger.” (Jonah 4:2)
God spared a wicked city.
Even their cattle are mentioned.
Why?
Because God delights in mercy.
Grace was not absent in prophecy.
▪️So What’s the Difference?
The basis of salvation has always been:
• The blood of Christ
• By grace
• Through faith
No one was ever saved by works.
Ever.
But here’s the key:
The content of faith changes as revelation progresses.
Abel believed what God revealed to him — and offered a sacrifice.
Noah believed what God revealed — and built an ark.
Israel believed what God revealed through Moses.
Today?
We believe:
“Christ died for our sins… was buried… and rose again the third day.” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
Same Savior.
Same cross.
Greater revelation.
▪️The Principle That Never Changes
Salvation has always required:
Believing what God said
about what He was doing
at that time.
Not mixing programs.
Not importing future revelation backward.
Not dragging past instructions forward.
Believe God’s Word
rightly divided.
▪️The Beauty of It All
Grace is not new.
But this administration of grace is.
Today there is:
• No covenant to enter
• No sacrifices to offer
• No kingdom signs required
Just faith in a finished cross.
Grace is richer now because the mystery is revealed.
And when you see that…
The Bible doesn’t contradict itself.
It unfolds.
Grace in every age.
But this age?
Grace reigning.
