That question matters.
It is not casual.
It is not theoretical.
It protects the very character of God.
Paul asks:
“Hath God cast away his people?” — Romans 11:1
He asks again:
“What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for?” — Romans 11:7
And earlier:
“What advantage then hath the Jew?” — Romans 3:1
These are not random questions.
They guard God’s faithfulness.
They guard sound doctrine.
They guard right division.
▪️Why Does Paul Even Ask This?
Because something dramatic happened.
Israel rejected her Messiah.
Stephen was stoned.
The prophetic clock was ready to move into wrath.
And then—
Acts 9.
The risen Lord interrupts prophecy
and saves Saul of Tarsus.
A new dispensation begins.
The dispensation of the grace of God (Eph. 3:1–2).
So the natural question becomes:
Did God abandon Israel?
Paul answers clearly:
“God forbid.” — Romans 11:1
Not maybe.
Not partially.
Not permanently.
God has not cast away His people.
▪️Then What Happened?
Israel, as a nation, was set aside.
“Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.” — Romans 11:7
Notice the precision:
• Not destroyed.
• Not replaced.
• Blinded.
Temporarily.
“Blindness in part is happened to Israel, until…” — Romans 11:25
There is that word: until.
Grace now.
Prophecy later.
Mystery now.
Kingdom later.
▪️What Advantage Then Hath the Jew?
Paul already answered:
“Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.” — Romans 3:2
Israel’s advantage was real.
• Covenants
• Promises
• Law
• Service
• The fathers
• Christ according to the flesh (Rom. 9:4–5)
Those promises do not evaporate
because a new dispensation begins.
If God could abandon Israel,
He could abandon you.
But He will not.
▪️Why These Questions Protect Us
These questions:
• Protect God’s integrity
• Protect the distinction between Israel and the Church, the Body of Christ
• Protect the hope of both programs
When we fail to rightly divide:
• We merge Israel and the Body of Christ.
• We confuse prophecy and mystery.
• We weaken assurance.
But when we let Paul speak—
Clarity comes.
Israel has a future earthly kingdom.
The Body of Christ has a heavenly calling.
Two programs.
One faithful God.
▪️The Beauty of Romans 11
Romans 11 shows us:
God can pause a program
without canceling it.
He can introduce a mystery
without breaking a promise.
He can extend grace to Gentiles
without denying Israel’s covenants.
That is wisdom.
That is sovereignty.
That is faithfulness.
Right division is not cold theology.
It gives peace.
Because the same God who keeps His word to Israel
will keep His word to you.
You are not holding onto Him.
He is holding onto His Word.
And He never breaks it.
So when someone asks:
“Hath God cast away His people?”
We answer with Paul:
God forbid.
Stand in grace.
Rest in your heavenly hope.
Trust the faithfulness of God.
And rejoice—
Because the God who keeps covenant
is the God who saved you by grace.
