why did Paul say He was a minister of the circumcision?
(Romans 15:8)
This question changes everything.
Because if we miss this…
we confuse the Bible.
We mix programs.
We claim promises God never made to us.
And we wonder why things don’t fit.
But when we rightly divide…
clarity comes.
Peace comes.
The Word finally makes sense.
Let Scripture speak.
Paul writes plainly:
“Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers.”
— Romans 15:8
Read that slowly.
Not speculation.
Not theology.
Not tradition.
Paul says it directly.
Jesus’ earthly ministry was:
• to the circumcision
• to Israel
• to confirm the promises made to the fathers
That means Abraham.
Isaac.
Jacob.
David.
Kingdom promises.
Land promises.
Covenant promises.
Not the Body of Christ.
▪️During His earthly life…
Jesus Himself said:
“I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Matt. 15:24)
“Go not into the way of the Gentiles…” (Matt. 10:5–6)
He preached:
• The gospel of the Kingdom
• Signs and miracles
• Water baptism
• The law fulfilled
• Israel’s earthly kingdom hope
That is not Paul’s message.
Not our commission.
Not our program.
▪️Then something changed
Not God’s character.
Not salvation by grace.
But God’s administration.
After Israel rejected their Messiah…
after the cross…
after the resurrection…
Christ revealed something kept secret since the world began.
And who did He reveal it to?
Paul.
“The dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward.” (Eph. 3:2)
“The mystery… hid in God.” (Eph. 3:9)
“Be ye followers of me.” (1 Cor. 4:16)
Now we’re not under Israel’s program.
Now we’re not waiting for an earthly kingdom.
Now we’re not the circumcision.
We are:
• The Body of Christ
• Blessed in heavenly places
• Saved apart from covenants
• Justified freely by grace
• Sent to all nations without distinction
Not prophecy.
Mystery.
▪️So why does this matter?
Because if we say Jesus’ earthly ministry was directly to us…
we end up:
• claiming Israel’s promises
• copying Israel’s commands
• forcing kingdom verses onto grace believers
• mixing law and grace
And confusion follows.
But when we accept Romans 15:8…
peace follows.
We can say:
👉 What Jesus taught Israel was true — but not written to us.
👉 What Paul teaches the Body is written to us.
👉 All Scripture is for us — but not all Scripture is to us.
And suddenly…
The Bible stops fighting itself.
It flows.
▪️Here’s the beautiful truth
Jesus didn’t ignore us.
He wasn’t excluding us.
He was simply finishing Israel’s program first.
Then He saved the chief of sinners…
Then He raised up Paul…
Then grace overflowed to the Gentiles.
So today we don’t follow Jesus in Matthew.
We follow Jesus revealed through Paul.
Same Savior.
Different ministry.
Greater revelation.
Not earthly kingdom.
Heavenly glory.
Rest in this today:
You are not the circumcision.
You are not under the law.
You are not waiting for signs.
You are:
Saved by grace.
Seated in Christ.
Complete in Him.
And that truth will steady your heart like nothing else.
Right division doesn’t take Jesus away from you.
It shows you exactly where you belong in His plan.
And where you belong…
is glorious.
