If You Preach the Kingdom Gospel Today, You Rob the Cross of Its Glory

If You Preach The Kingdom Gospel Today

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

That may sound strong—but truth often is.

The issue isn’t loving the Bible.
The issue is rightly dividing the Bible (2 Timothy 2:15).

God has always worked according to purpose and timing.
And what God preached then is not always what He preaches now.

What Was the Kingdom Gospel?

Jesus and the Twelve preached:

“Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17)

This was:

• A message to Israel
• About a literal, earthly kingdom
• Conditioned on national repentance

Peter said plainly:

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted… that he may send Jesus Christ.” (Acts 3:19–20)

No cross explained.
No blood atonement proclaimed.
No justification by faith alone.

Why?

Because the cross had not yet been revealed.

What Is the Gospel Today?

Paul tells us clearly:

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel…
how that Christ died for our sins,
was buried,
and rose again the third day.” (1 Corinthians 15:1–4)

This is:

• The gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24)
• Revealed to Paul by Jesus Christ (Galatians 1:11–12)
• Preached to Jew and Gentile alike
• Centered fully on the finished work of the cross

Here, salvation is not:

• Repent and see if the kingdom comes

But:

• Believe—and be justified now (Romans 5:1)

Why This Matters

When the kingdom gospel is preached today:

• The cross becomes secondary
• Grace becomes conditional
• Faith becomes mixed with works
• The believer is left uncertain

And Paul warns:

“If righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” (Galatians 2:21)

Different gospel.
Different audience.
Different purpose.

Same Bible—but not the same message.

Right Division Protects the Cross

Rightly dividing the Word:

• Magnifies grace
• Clarifies salvation
• Exalts the cross
• Gives assurance to the believer

Paul said:

“God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 6:14)

Not the kingdom.
Not signs and wonders.
Not Israel’s promises.

The cross.

Conclusion:

We don’t diminish Scripture by dividing it.
We honor Scripture by obeying it.

Preach the cross.
Preach grace.
Preach Christ crucified.

Because this is the gospel that saves today.
