You Rob the Cross of Its Glory
That may sound strong.
But sometimes truth has to be strong.
Because this isn’t about preference.
Not about tradition.
Not about what we grew up hearing.
This is about protecting the cross.
And the issue is simple:
Not just loving the Bible…
but rightly dividing the Bible.
“Study… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15
God always works according to purpose and timing.
And what God preached then
is not always what He preaches now.
▪️What was the Kingdom Gospel?
When Jesus walked the earth, He preached:
“Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
— Matthew 4:17
Notice what that message was:
• To Israel
• About a literal earthly kingdom
• About David’s throne
• Conditioned on national repentance
Peter said the same:
“Repent ye therefore… that he may send Jesus Christ.”
— Acts 3:19–20
If Israel repented → the King returns.
If Israel received Him → the Kingdom comes.
That’s prophecy.
That’s covenant.
That’s Israel’s hope.
But notice something carefully…
You don’t hear:
• Christ died for your sins
• Trust the blood
• Justification by faith alone
Why?
Because the cross hadn’t yet been revealed as good news.
They didn’t preach the cross.
They didn’t understand it yet.
▪️Then something changed
Not God’s character.
Not grace.
But God’s administration.
Israel rejected their Messiah.
The kingdom was postponed.
And Christ revealed something brand new.
Something hidden.
Something kept secret.
“The mystery, which was kept secret since the world began…”
— Romans 16:25
And who received it?
Paul.
▪️What is the gospel today?
Now listen to Paul:
“I declare unto you the gospel…
how that Christ died for our sins,
and was buried,
and rose again the third day.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:1–4
That’s not “repent for a kingdom.”
That’s:
Christ died.
Christ paid.
Christ finished it.
Believe — and be saved.
Paul calls it:
“The gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24)
Not conditional.
Not national.
Not works-based.
Grace.
Pure grace.

Kingdom Gospel
• Repent
• Kingdom at hand
• Israel first
• Signs and wonders
• Earthly throne
Grace Gospel
• Believe
• Christ crucified
• Jew and Gentile equal
• No signs required
• Heavenly position
Different message.
Different audience.
Different program.
Same Bible.
Rightly divided.
▪️Why this matters so much
Because when people preach the kingdom gospel today…
without realizing it…
they slowly push the cross aside.
Grace gets mixed with works.
Assurance disappears.
People start wondering:
“Did I repent enough?”
“Did I do enough?”
“Did I hold out to the end?”
That’s not rest.
That’s fear.
But grace says:
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God.”
— Romans 5:1
Peace.
Finished.
Settled.
▪️Right division protects the cross
Rightly dividing doesn’t weaken Scripture.
It honors Scripture.
It lets each verse sit where God placed it.
And when you do that…
the cross shines brighter than ever.
Not law.
Not covenants.
Not a kingdom program.
Paul said:
“God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
— Galatians 6:14
Not signs.
Not religion.
Not performance.
The cross.
Always the cross.
▪️So here’s the heart of it
We don’t preach the kingdom today.
We preach Christ crucified.
We don’t call people to reform Israel.
We call people to trust the finished work.
We don’t say “wait for the King.”
We say “rest in what the King already did.”
Preach grace.
Preach the cross.
Preach the gospel revealed to Paul.
Because this is the gospel that saves today.
And nothing — absolutely nothing — should rob the cross of its glory.
