—and most of them will be church-going people.
That may sound harsh.
But Scripture prepares us for it.
Paul never promised popularity.
He promised clarity.
And clarity often brings conflict.
▪️Faithfulness Has Always Had a Cost
Paul told Timothy:
“All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
(2 Timothy 3:12)
Notice—
Not because they were unkind.
Not because they were arrogant.
But because they were faithful.
When you preach:
• salvation by grace alone
• justification without works
• a gospel not according to prophecy
• truth revealed by the risen Christ to Paul
You disturb comfortable religion.
▪️The Resistance Often Comes from Inside the Church
Paul warned the elders at Ephesus:
“Of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things.”
(Acts 20:30)
That’s sobering.
The strongest opposition to Paul’s message has never come from atheists.
It comes from sincere, religious people who:
• love tradition
• prefer mixture
• feel threatened by clarity
Grace offends pride.
Right division exposes confusion.
Paul’s gospel leaves no room for boasting.
▪️This Is Not New — Paul Lived It
Paul was opposed by:
• religious leaders
• Judaizers
• believers who wanted grace plus something
He said plainly:
“If I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”
(Galatians 1:10)
Faithfulness to Paul’s doctrine will cost you approval.
But it will gain you peace with God.
Why Keep Going?
Because souls matter.
Because truth liberates.
Because God commanded it.
“Rightly dividing the word of truth.”
(2 Timothy 2:15)
We don’t preach Paul to exalt a man.
We preach Paul because Christ chose him to reveal the mystery for today.
▪️Conclusion:
If you’ve lost friends…
If you’ve been misunderstood…
If you’ve been labeled divisive…
You’re not alone.
Stand firm.
Speak gently.
Teach patiently.
Love sincerely.
Truth doesn’t need volume.
It needs clarity.
Grace will always have enemies.
But it will also always have power.
“According to my gospel.”
(Romans 2:16)
Keep preaching.
Keep teaching.
Keep trusting.
