In My First Defense No Man Stood With Me

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

— 2 Timothy 4:16 (KJV)

Those words pierce the heart, don’t they?

Paul—the apostle of the Gentiles…
Paul—the steward of the mystery…
Paul—the one God used to give us the doctrine we stand on today…

stood alone.

No crowd.
No support.
No defenders.
No one willing to risk their reputation by standing beside him.

And yet Paul wasn’t bitter.
He wasn’t shaken.
He wasn’t defeated.

Why?

Because he understood something deeper:

Even when others step away, the Lord steps in.

In the very next verse he says,

“Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me…”
— 2 Timothy 4:17

People may fail you.
Friends may distance themselves.
Believers may misunderstand your stand for Pauline truth.
Some may avoid you when you preach the gospel of the grace of God without compromise.

But the Lord never leaves His servants standing alone.

When you stand for truth…

When you stand for the gospel Paul preached…

When you stand for the mystery committed to him…

You may lose approval.
You may lose comfort.
You may lose companions.

But you will never lose Christ.

And like Paul, you can say:

• The Lord stood with me.

• The Lord strengthened me.

• The Lord sustained the message through me.

Your loneliness does not mean God’s absence.
It often means you’re standing exactly where He placed you.

So keep standing.

Even if no one stands with you.
Because the Lord always will.

Lord, when I feel alone in the stand You’ve called me to take, remind me that You never leave Your servants by themselves. Strengthen my heart with the same grace that upheld Paul, and help me stand firm in Your truth with courage, clarity, and peace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
