🤔 Good question! Let’s look closely, rightly dividing the Word (2 Tim. 2:15).
💧 Baptism in Israel’s Program
Under the kingdom gospel, water baptism was commanded:
• Mark 16:16 – “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.”
• Acts 2:38 – Peter preached: “Repent, and be baptized every one of you… for the remission of sins.”
👉 For Israel, baptism wasn’t optional. It was tied to repentance, cleansing, and identification with their Messiah. It was part of God’s covenant dealings with the chosen nation.
✝️ Paul’s Gospel Is Different
When Christ revealed the mystery to Paul (Eph. 3:1–9), the message changed:
• Salvation is now by grace through faith alone — not works, rituals, or ceremonies (Eph. 2:8–9).
• The “one baptism” of this dispensation is Spirit baptism into the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13).
That’s why Paul wrote:
👉 “Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel.” (1 Cor. 1:17)
If water baptism were required for salvation, Paul would never separate it from the gospel.
🚨 Right Division Clarifies the Confusion
Many churches mix Israel’s program (kingdom gospel) with Paul’s program (grace gospel). That’s why some say, “You need baptism to be saved.”
But Paul’s letters (Romans–Philemon) are our instructions today. And in those letters:
• No command to baptize for salvation
• No link between water and forgiveness
• Only emphasis on faith in Christ’s finished crosswork (1 Cor. 15:1–4)
🧱 The One Baptism Today
Paul teaches there is “one Lord, one faith, ONE baptism” (Eph. 4:5).
That one baptism is not water 💧 but the Spirit placing us into Christ’s Body (1 Cor. 12:13, Gal. 3:27).
So today:
✔️ Salvation = faith in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (Rom. 4:5; Rom. 10:9–10).
❌ Salvation ≠ water baptism, law-keeping, or rituals.
🙌 Comfort for Believers
You don’t need a priest, a baptistry, or a ceremony to be saved. Christ did it all at Calvary. All you do is believe the gospel of grace.
💖 Rest in this truth: “By him all that believe are justified from all things” (Acts 13:39).
