Let’s rightly divide the Word of Truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
Many teach today that the Church has replaced Israel—that we are now “spiritual Israel,” inheriting all her promises and blessings.
But the Bible says something very different when you study it dispensationally.
ISRAEL: GOD’S EARTHLY PEOPLE
From Genesis 12 onward, God set apart one nation—Israel—to be His chosen people through Abraham.
He made specific, unconditional promises to them:
• A Land: “Unto thy seed will I give this land” (Genesis 12:7; 15:18)
• A Kingdom: “The Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David” (Luke 1:32–33)
• A King: The Messiah, Jesus Christ, to reign on David’s throne over Israel (Isaiah 9:6–7; Jeremiah 23:5–6)
Israel’s hope is earthly—a restored kingdom on earth under their promised King. That’s why the apostles asked, “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6)
THE CHURCH, THE BODY OF CHRIST: GOD’S HEAVENLY PEOPLE
When Israel rejected her Messiah, God temporarily set the nation aside (Romans 11:11, 25).
Through the Apostle Paul, God revealed a new dispensation—a “mystery which was kept secret since the world began” (Romans 16:25; Ephesians 3:1–9).
This mystery was not Israel rebranded—it was an entirely new creation:
“That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel.” (Ephesians 3:6)
The Church, the Body of Christ, is made up of both Jew and Gentile—one new man (Ephesians 2:14–16)—with heavenly blessings and a heavenly calling:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)

Israel
• Earthly promises
• Prophecy revealed since the world began (Acts 3:21)
• Nation under the Law
• Christ as King
• Hope: Kingdom on Earth
The Body of Christ
• Heavenly promises
• Mystery kept secret since the world began (Romans 16:25)
• Body under Grace
• Christ as Head
• Hope: Caught up to Heaven (Rapture)
The Church is not “spiritual Israel.”
We are a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Our blessings are spiritual and heavenly—not Israel’s earthly kingdom blessings.
When you confuse Israel and the Church, you blur God’s distinct purposes—and miss the riches of His grace revealed through Paul.
