Israel Had Ordinances — We Have Liberty In Christ

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

The Bible makes a clear distinction between God’s program for Israel and His program for the Body of Christ. If we don’t rightly divide, we’ll confuse the two and miss out on the liberty we have today.

🔹 Colossians 2:14–16 says Christ blotted out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, nailing it to His cross. Because of that, Paul tells us: “Let no man judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the sabbath days.”

👉 Israel lived under a system of ordinances:

• Laws about food 🥩🥛

• Feast days 🎉

• Holy days and sabbaths 📅

• Washings and baptisms 💧

These ordinances were shadows pointing to Christ (Colossians 2:17; Hebrews 10:1).

But for us today in the Body of Christ, Paul says:

✨ We are not under the law, but under grace (Romans 6:14).
✨ We are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10).
✨ We have liberty from the ordinances that once bound Israel (Galatians 5:1).

🔥 That means:

• No more temple sacrifices.

• No more sabbath requirements.

• No more feast day obligations.

• No more water baptisms for purification.

Instead, we live in the reality of what Christ accomplished! His death, burial, and resurrection are enough. 🙏

📖 Paul reminds us:

“Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel” (1 Corinthians 1:17).

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free” (Galatians 5:1).

🙌 Today, our walk is not about ordinances, but about living by grace through faith, resting in Christ’s finished work.

❓Question for you:
Are you still holding on to ordinances and shadows, or are you rejoicing in the liberty of being complete in Christ?
