—He Began A New Ministry
Let’s approach this carefully… and prayerfully.
Not to argue.
Not to divide believers.
But to honor what God actually did in His Word.
Many sincere Christians assume Paul simply carried on where Peter and the Twelve left off.
But when we slow down and let the Bible speak, a different picture emerges.
Not continuation.
Revelation.
Paul’s Gospel Came Directly from the Risen Christ
Paul makes this unmistakably clear:
“The gospel which was preached of me is not after man… but by the revelation of Jesus Christ”
(Galatians 1:11–12)
That’s strong language.
Paul did not learn his message from Peter.
He was not trained by the Twelve.
He received his gospel from Christ in glory.
That matters.
Because revelation means something new was given.
The Twelve: Sent to Israel with the Kingdom Message
Jesus Himself defined their ministry:
“Go not into the way of the Gentiles… but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel”
(Matthew 10:5–6)
Their message was clear:
“Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 10:7)
Their hope was clear:
“Wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6)
Everything about their ministry was:
• Prophecy
• Israel
• Earthly kingdom
Exactly as the prophets had spoken.
Paul: Sent to the Nations with the Gospel of Grace
Then comes Paul.
Not sent by men.
Not sent to Israel.
Sent by Christ Himself—to all nations.
“The gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me”
(Galatians 2:7)
“I am the apostle of the Gentiles”
(Romans 11:13)
And how does Paul describe his message?
“The gospel of the grace of God”
(Acts 20:24)
Not the kingdom at hand.
Not prophecy unfolding.
But grace revealed.
A Different Dispensation—A Hidden Purpose Revealed
Paul explains that his ministry was not prophecy fulfilled, but:
“The dispensation of the grace of God… the mystery… hid in God”
(Ephesians 3:2–9)
This is not Israel’s program on pause.
This is not the Twelve expanded.
This is a new administration—
the formation of the Body of Christ
with a heavenly calling.
Right Division Brings Clarity
Let’s say it plainly—and kindly:
• Peter & the Twelve
– Prophecy
– Israel
– Kingdom on earth
• Paul
– Mystery
– Body of Christ
– Heavenly calling
When these are mixed, confusion follows.
When they are divided, peace comes.
“Rightly dividing the word of truth”
(2 Timothy 2:15)
Conclusion:
Paul did not continue the Twelve’s ministry.
He began a new one.
A ministry of grace.
A ministry for today.
A ministry that explains who we are in Christ right now.
And when we listen to Paul,
we don’t lose Jesus—
we finally understand Him.
A Question Worth Considering:
If Paul’s ministry was just a continuation…
why did the risen Christ give him a gospel by direct revelation?
Grace clarifies.
Right division liberates.
And Christ is glorified.
