One of the most neglected—but most transformative—truths in the entire Bible is Paul’s declaration in Romans 16:25:
“…my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.”
For many believers, this verse sits quietly in the background. But for those who study the Scriptures rightly divided, it becomes a doorway into understanding God’s design for the Dispensation of Grace.
Let’s walk through what this means, why it matters, and how it shapes our identity as members of the Body of Christ.
“My Gospel”: Paul’s Distinct Message
Paul did not use the words “my gospel” out of pride or ego. He used those words because Christ entrusted to him a distinct message (Galatians 1:11–12) that was not revealed to any prophet or apostle before him.
This gospel is:
• Justification by grace through faith alone (Romans 3:21–28)
• Without Israel’s law or covenant (Romans 6:14; Galatians 2:7–9)
• Available equally to Jew and Gentile (Ephesians 3:6)
• Rooted in Christ’s finished cross-work (1 Corinthians 15:1–4)
Paul’s gospel is the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24), not the gospel of the kingdom preached by Jesus and the Twelve during His earthly ministry (Matthew 10:5–7).
The Kingdom gospel required:
• Repentance
• Water baptism
• Faith that Jesus is the Messiah
• Obedience to Israel’s covenant program
Paul’s gospel requires none of those Israel-specific conditions—because it is a new dispensation, apart from Israel’s prophetic kingdom.
“The Preaching of Jesus Christ” — But According to WHAT?
Romans 16:25 doesn’t just say “the preaching of Jesus Christ.”
It says the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery.
This means we preach Christ…
…NOT as the King offering Israel their promised earthly kingdom (Matthew 4:17)
…NOT as the fulfillment of Israel’s covenants (Romans 15:8)
…NOT as the minister of the circumcision (Matthew 15:24)
…but as the Head of the Body of Christ, revealed from heaven to Paul after Christ had already ascended in glory.
Paul preaches:
• Christ crucified as the means of reconciliation for the world (2 Corinthians 5:18–19)
• Christ forming a new Body, neither Jew nor Gentile (Ephesians 2:13–16)
• Christ revealing a heavenly purpose, not Israel’s earthly kingdom (Colossians 3:1–4)
We preach the same Christ, but from a different revelation, a different program, and a different purpose.
“Kept Secret Since the World Began” — The Hidden Wisdom of God
The prophets talked about:
• Israel’s kingdom
• Israel’s Messiah
• Israel’s tribulation
• Israel’s restoration
• Israel ruling the nations
But they never spoke about:
• A Body of Christ composed of Jews and Gentiles made one
• Salvation by grace apart from covenants, law, or Israel’s rise
• A heavenly position and heavenly inheritance
• A gospel revealed directly from the risen Christ to Paul
• The temporary fall of Israel and God turning to the Gentiles through Paul (Romans 11:11–15)
Why?
Because it was a mystery.
“Which in other ages was NOT made known…”
—Ephesians 3:5
“Hid from ages and from generations…”
—Colossians 1:26
“Which NONE of the princes of this world knew…”
—1 Corinthians 2:7–8
The mystery program was planned before the foundation of the world, but revealed only when Israel rejected their Messiah and God saved Saul by grace.
Why This Matters TODAY
Understanding Paul’s gospel is not a small doctrinal tweak; it changes how we understand:
✔ Salvation — by grace alone, without works
(Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8–9)
✔ Identity — we are not spiritual Israel; we are the Body of Christ
(1 Corinthians 12:13)
✔ Our hope — not an earthly kingdom, but a heavenly destiny
(Philippians 3:20; Colossians 3:1–4)
✔ Our walk — not under the Law, but under grace
(Romans 6:14)
✔ Our purpose — ambassadors for reconciliation
(2 Corinthians 5:18–20)
This is not “another religion”; this is the centerpiece of God’s work today.
The Mid-Acts Clarity
Mid-Acts Pauline Dispensationalism doesn’t create divisions—it exposes the divisions God Himself placed in Scripture so that we can read His Word with understanding (2 Timothy 2:7).
It explains:
• Why the Twelve preached a kingdom, but we preach grace
• Why Jesus taught law, but Paul teaches liberty
• Why prophecy spoke of Israel rising, but today Israel has fallen
• Why water baptism was required early in Acts, but is not required now
• Why Paul’s epistles contain doctrines no one preached before him
This isn’t arrogance—it’s obedience to Scripture rightly divided.
