Preaching Christ According To The Mystery

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

Many people think the “last days” are still coming—but according to the Apostle Paul, we’re already living in them.

In 2 Timothy 3:1, Paul wrote:

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”

He wasn’t describing the prophetic “last days” of Israel’s program that lead to the Tribulation (as in Acts 2:17 or Hebrews 1:2).
He was describing the “last days” of this present dispensation of grace—the time leading up to the close of God’s present work through the Body of Christ.

What Do These Perilous Times Look Like?

Paul lists them clearly (2 Timothy 3:2–5):

• Men shall be lovers of their own selves.

• Covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers.

• Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.

Sound familiar?
Truth is ridiculed.
Churches drift into worldliness.
The gospel of grace is diluted or replaced.
And sadly, the revelation of the mystery (Romans 16:25; Ephesians 3:2–9) is neglected—even by many who name Christ.

Paul’s Warning to the Church Today

The apostle didn’t write this to discourage Timothy or us—he wrote it to equip us.
He gave the antidote to perilous times:

👉 “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of…” (2 Timothy 3:14)

That means we must:

• Hold fast to sound doctrine (2 Timothy 1:13).

• Study to shew thyself approved unto God (2 Timothy 2:15).

• Rightly divide the Word of truth, separating prophecy (Israel’s program) from mystery (the Body of Christ’s program).

The Anchor for the Last Days

When everything around us seems unstable—politically, morally, spiritually—there’s one sure foundation:

“According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation…” (1 Corinthians 3:10).

Paul’s gospel and doctrine for the Body of Christ are the blueprint for today.
Not the law of Moses.
Not the kingdom instructions to Israel.
But the revelation of the mystery given to Paul for us Gentiles (Ephesians 3:1–9; Colossians 1:25–27).

Don’t Drift. Don’t Panic. Stand Firm in Truth.

You don’t need to fear the news headlines or chase prophetic timelines meant for another dispensation.
Instead, stand in grace, walk by faith, and rest in the complete revelation God has given us through the Apostle Paul.

The perilous times are real—but so is God’s purpose for the Body of Christ.

Be grounded.
Be clear.
Be faithful.

“Continue in the things thou hast learned.”
