Grace Offers Rest
Religion says:
“Do more.”
“Try harder.”
“Clean yourself up.”
“Earn God’s favor.”
Grace says:
“It is finished.”
That is the difference between man’s religion and God’s grace.
So many today are exhausted spiritually because they are trying to earn what God freely gives. They are mixing law with grace, prophecy with mystery, Israel’s program with the Church’s heavenly calling. And when you mix those things together, confusion always follows.
But when you rightly divide the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15), the Bible begins to make sense.
You begin to see that God is doing something distinct today in this present Dispensation of Grace.
Not prophecy.
Not the kingdom program.
Not Israel under the Law.
But the revelation of the mystery committed to the Apostle Paul.
“For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles…” — Romans 11:13 KJV
Religion tells people to labor for acceptance.
Grace tells believers they are already accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6).
Religion says:
“Perform so God will bless you.”
Grace says:
“You are already blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)
That changes everything.
• Under the Law, Israel had a covenant program connected to the earth.
• Under Grace, the Body of Christ has a heavenly calling connected to the mystery.
• Prophecy spoke “since the world began.”
• The mystery was “kept secret since the world began.” (Romans 16:25)
Those are not the same program.
This is why Paul warns believers not to place themselves back under a performance system.
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free…” — Galatians 5:1 KJV
The gospel today is not:
“Work until you endure enough.”
The gospel is:
Christ died for our sins,
was buried,
and rose again the third day.
“That Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day…” — 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 KJV
Salvation is not achieved by religious effort.
Salvation is received by faith in Christ’s finished work.
Complete forgiveness.
Complete justification.
Complete acceptance.
In Christ.
And once you understand your identity in Christ, you stop striving to become accepted by God and begin resting in what Christ already accomplished for you at Calvary.
That rest is not laziness.
It is confidence.
Confidence in the cross.
Confidence in grace.
Confidence in the sufficiency of Christ.
Religion keeps people in bondage because it constantly points them back to themselves.
Grace points you to Christ.
• His righteousness
• His finished work
• His heavenly purpose
• His life in you
This is why sound doctrine matters.
When law and grace are mixed together, believers lose assurance, lose stability, and lose clarity about who they are in Christ.
But grace establishes the heart.
“Ye are complete in him…” — Colossians 2:10 KJV
Not partially complete.
Not conditionally complete.
Complete in Him.
God is not forming an earthly kingdom program today.
He is forming the Church, the Body of Christ, for a heavenly purpose.
And that Church is not called to strive for salvation—
it is called to rest in the riches of His grace.
Religion offers effort.
Grace offers rest.
And only grace gives peace to the soul.
