For many believers, the Bible is a precious treasure.
We love it.
We quote it.
We trust it.
Yet many sincere Christians still feel confused when they read it.
Some verses seem to say one thing…
Other passages seem to say something different.
Instructions appear to change.
Promises seem to apply in one place but not in another.
So people wonder:
• Why did Jesus tell His disciples to preach the kingdom?
• Why does Paul preach the gospel of the grace of God?
• Why were miracles and tongues common in Acts, but not today?
• Why does Scripture speak of both an earthly kingdom and heavenly places?
The problem is not the Bible.
The problem is not sincerity.
The problem is not lack of effort.
The problem is method.
God has already shown us how He wants His Word studied.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15
Right division is not a system invented by men.
It is the method God Himself gave so that His Word can be understood exactly as He intended.
And once a believer sees it—
once they understand why right division matters—
the whole Bible begins to open with clarity, order, and harmony.
▪️The Bible Was Written TO Different People at Different Times
One of the greatest misunderstandings in Christianity is the idea that every verse in the Bible is written directly to us in the same way.
But the Bible itself shows something different.
God has worked through two distinct programs in Scripture:
• Israel
A chosen nation beginning with Abraham, given covenants, promises, and a prophesied earthly Kingdom.
• The Body of Christ
A heavenly people revealed through the apostle Paul, blessed with spiritual blessings and a calling never spoken of in prophecy.
Both are part of God’s eternal plan.
But they are not the same program.
When believers mix them together, the Bible becomes foggy.
When believers separate them according to God’s design, the Bible becomes clear.
▪️Jesus’ Earthly Ministry Was to Israel
This truth is simple, yet often overlooked.
During His earthly ministry in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, Jesus ministered to Israel.
Jesus Himself said:
“I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
— Matthew 15:24
During that time:
• He preached the gospel of the Kingdom.
• The twelve apostles were sent only to Israel.
• The message centered on the fulfillment of prophecy.
• The Kingdom promised by the prophets was at hand.
Jesus was fulfilling what God had spoken:
“…by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.”
— Acts 3:21
But something important had not yet been revealed.
The mystery was still hidden.
▪️God Reveals the Mystery Through Paul
When Israel rejected their Messiah and the nation fell in unbelief in Acts 7, prophecy expected judgment.
But instead of pouring out wrath…
God did something astonishing.
He saved the very man leading the rebellion—
Saul of Tarsus.
And He made him the apostle Paul.
Through Paul, God revealed something completely new:
“…the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.”
— Romans 16:25
Paul explains that this truth:
• was kept secret since the world began
• was not made known in other ages
• was revealed by Christ from heaven
(Ephesians 3:5)
This new revelation included:
• A new gospel — the Gospel of Grace
• A new body — the Church, the Body of Christ
• A new hope — a heavenly calling
• A new dispensation — the Dispensation of Grace
• A new identity for all who believe
This was not a continuation of prophecy.
It was the revelation of the mystery.
▪️We Live in the Dispensation of Grace
Today, God’s instructions for the Church are found in Paul’s epistles.
Romans through Philemon contain the doctrine for the Body of Christ.
In this present dispensation:
• Salvation is by grace through faith
(Ephesians 2:8–9)
• We are not under the law
(Romans 6:14)
• Jew and Gentile stand on equal ground
(Galatians 3:28)
• Believers are baptized by the Spirit into one Body
(1 Corinthians 12:13)
• Our blessings are spiritual and heavenly
(Ephesians 1:3)
These truths were not revealed before Paul.
And they define God’s program for today.
▪️Why Right Division Matters
When believers mix Israel’s program with the Body of Christ, confusion appears.
Questions start multiplying:
• Should Christians speak in tongues today?
• Should we follow the Great Commission, or Paul’s commission?
• Should believers practice water baptism, or is the one baptism of Ephesians 4:5 enough?
• Should we tithe, or give freely under grace?
• Are we part of the Kingdom Church, or the Body of Christ?
• Can salvation be lost, or are we sealed in Christ?
These debates exist for one reason:
Christians mix things God separated.
Rightly dividing the Word of Truth removes that confusion.
▪️When You Rightly Divide, the Bible Falls Into Place
Suddenly Scripture develops a beautiful structure:
• Genesis – Acts 8 → Israel’s prophetic program
• Acts 9 → The raising up of Paul
• Romans – Philemon → Doctrine for the Body of Christ
• Hebrews – Revelation → Israel’s prophetic program resumed
What once felt contradictory now becomes harmonious.
What once felt confusing now becomes clear.
Right division does not reduce Scripture.
It respects the order God placed within it.
▪️Right Division Exalts Christ
Some people worry that emphasizing Paul somehow diminishes Christ.
In reality, the opposite is true.
Right division exalts:
• Christ’s finished work on the cross
• Christ as Head of the Body
• Christ revealing the Mystery from heaven
• Christ offering grace freely to all today
Paul is simply the chosen vessel.
“He is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles…”
— Acts 9:15
Rightly dividing the Word does not divide believers.
It divides the Scriptures so believers can understand them.
And once you see it…
Once your eyes are opened to the difference between prophecy and mystery…
The Bible becomes the most beautifully organized book you have ever read.
Clear.
Harmonious.
Christ-centered.
This is grace.
This is clarity.
This is God’s program for today.
