That’s not a harsh question.
It’s an honest one.
And in a time when many voices claim to “preach the gospel,”
it’s a necessary one.
▪️GOD DIDN’T JUST SAY “READ”—HE SAID “STUDY”
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
Why?
Because not every verse
is written to you.
All Scripture is for us—
but not all Scripture is to us.
And if we don’t recognize that—
We will mix things God never meant to mix.
▪️WHAT IS RIGHT DIVISION?
It’s not adding to the Bible.
It’s not removing from it.
It’s simply recognizing the divisions God already made.
There is a difference between:
• Prophecy — spoken since the world began (Acts 3:21)
• Mystery — kept secret since the world began (Romans 16:25)
There is a difference between:
• Israel under the Law (Exodus 19:5–6)
• The Body of Christ under Grace (Romans 6:14; Ephesians 3:2)
When those lines get blurred—
Confusion follows.
Always.
▪️CAN GOD USE SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T RIGHTLY DIVIDE?
Yes.
Absolutely.
“Whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached…”
— Philippians 1:18
God is gracious.
He uses imperfect people.
He works even when understanding is incomplete.
▪️BUT TEACHING IS DIFFERENT
Teaching carries weight.
Responsibility.
Accountability.
“Holding fast the faithful word…”
— Titus 1:9
When you teach—
You’re not just speaking.
You’re shaping how others understand God.
▪️WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DON’T RIGHTLY DIVIDE?
We don’t just make small mistakes—
We create real confusion.
• People tithe under law
instead of giving by grace (2 Corinthians 9:7)
• People claim Israel’s promises
instead of resting in heavenly blessings (Ephesians 1:3)
• People trust rituals
instead of Christ’s finished work (1 Corinthians 12:13)
And the result?
Uncertainty.
Frustration.
Spiritual instability.
▪️WHAT SHOULD WE LOOK FOR IN A TEACHER?
Not perfection—
But faithfulness.
• Teachable — still growing, still learning
• Grounded in Paul’s gospel — grace, not law (Romans 11:13)
• Rightly dividing — not blending everything together
• Christ-centered — not tradition-driven
This is not about pride.
It’s about submission to God’s Word.
▪️RIGHT DIVISION IS NOT A BADGE—IT’S OBEDIENCE
“Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern…”
— 1 Timothy 1:16
God gave us a pattern through Paul.
Not to argue—
But to understand.
Not to divide people—
But to clarify truth.
Conclusion:
We don’t study to win debates.
We study to know what God is doing today.
To stand in grace.
To walk in truth.
To help others do the same.
Clarity matters.
Doctrine matters.
Right division matters.
“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.”
— 2 Timothy 2:7
Let’s grow together.
