Spiritual Deception

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

— When Light Is Not Really Light

— 2 Corinthians 11:14; 2 Timothy 2:26 (KJV)

One of the greatest dangers today is not open evil…

It is subtle deception.

Not darkness that looks dark—
but darkness that looks like light.

“For Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (2 Cor. 11:14)

That means deception doesn’t come ugly.

It comes polished.
It comes religious.
It comes sounding right… but being wrong.

Satan’s strategy is not just to oppose truth…

It is to hide it.

To replace it.
To counterfeit it.

So instead of the gospel of grace…

People hear:

• “Do your best”
• “Be a good person”
• “All paths lead to God”

It sounds kind.
It sounds reasonable.

But it is a snare.

“That they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” (2 Tim. 2:26)

Captured… and don’t even know it.

So how do we escape deception?

Not by feelings.
Not by tradition.
Not by majority opinion.

But by the Word of God—rightly divided.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15)

Because not every verse in the Bible is written to you for your obedience today.

All Scripture is for you…
But not all Scripture is to you.

That matters.

That changes everything.

God has revealed something new through the Apostle Paul.

A message once hidden…
Now made manifest.

“According to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.” (Rom. 16:25)

A distinct apostleship.
A message of grace to the Gentiles.

This is God’s program today.

And at the center of it all is the gospel.

Not religion.
Not performance.
Not self-improvement.

But Christ.

“Christ died for our sins… was buried… and rose again the third day.” (1 Cor. 15:3–4)

That is the good news.

And salvation?

It is not earned.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2:8–9)

No works.
No merit.
No boasting.

Because the moment you trust in yourself…

You miss the point entirely.

Grace says:

You cannot save yourself.
Christ already did.

Grace says:

It is finished.
Believe it.

Rest in it.

So be careful.

Not everything called “truth” is truth.
Not everything that shines is light.

Test it by the Word.
Rightly divide it.
Stand in the gospel of grace.

Because the difference between truth and error…

Is not always obvious.

But it is always found in Scripture.
