Teach No Other Doctrine

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

When Paul left Timothy in Ephesus, he did not give him a casual suggestion.
He gave him a charge.

“That thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine.”
(1 Timothy 1:3)

Why such urgency?
Why such firmness?

Because God has one message for us today in this present dispensation of grace—
the gospel and doctrine revealed by the risen Christ to the Apostle Paul.

Anything else—no matter how sincere, biblical, or well‑intended—becomes “another doctrine.”

Two Programs. Two Messages. One Bible.

When Scripture is rightly divided (2 Timothy 2:15), clarity replaces confusion.

1. Israel’s Doctrine — Prophecy

This is God’s program revealed since the world began (Acts 3:21).

• Promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
• The Law given through Moses (John 1:17)
• The earthly kingdom gospel preached by Peter and the Twelve
(Matthew 10:5–7; Acts 3:19–21)

This message focused on a kingdom on earth, a nation restored, and covenants fulfilled.

True.
Biblical.
But not written to us.

2. Our Doctrine — The Mystery

This is God’s program kept secret until Christ revealed it to Paul.

“By revelation He made known unto me the mystery…”
(Ephesians 3:3)

• Revealed directly to Paul by the risen Lord
(Galatians 1:11–12; Ephesians 3:2–9)

• The gospel of the grace of God
(Acts 20:24; 1 Corinthians 15:1–4)

• The Body of Christ with a heavenly calling
(Philippians 3:20; Colossians 1:5)

This message explains:

• Who we are in Christ
• Where we are positioned
• How God is working today

Why “No Other Doctrine” Matters

When Israel’s kingdom program is mixed with the mystery of grace:

• Confusion replaces clarity
• Contradictions replace confidence
• Traditions of men replace sound doctrine

Paul warned about this repeatedly:

“I marvel that ye are so soon removed… unto another gospel.”
(Galatians 1:6)

“Rightly dividing the word of truth.”
(2 Timothy 2:15)

The issue is not loving the Bible.
The issue is handling it correctly.

Paul’s Solution — Stay with the Pattern

Paul did not point Timothy to every part of Scripture equally.

He pointed him to a pattern.

“Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me.”
(2 Timothy 1:13)

“Be followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.”
(1 Corinthians 11:1)

Not pride.
Not personality.
But divine appointment.

When we stay with Paul’s doctrine:

• We are not under law, but under grace (Romans 6:14)
• We are not under covenant, but under the mystery (Ephesians 3:2)
• We are not waiting for an earthly kingdom, but for the catching away of the Body of Christ
(1 Thessalonians 4:16–17)

Grace fits.
Grace frees.
Grace glorifies Christ.

Paul’s Charge Is Still Our Charge

Teach no other doctrine.

Not law mixed with grace.
Not prophecy blended with mystery.
Not Israel’s hope substituted for ours.

When we rightly divide:

• Prophecy and mystery
• Israel and the Church
• Law and grace

The Bible fits together perfectly.

Question for You:
Why did Paul charge Timothy to “teach no other doctrine”?
(1 Timothy 1:3)

Let’s talk—in grace, in truth, and in clarity.
