God is not divided.
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are perfectly united in purpose, fellowship, and glory. And Scripture gives us a glimpse of that divine counsel throughout His Word.
Psalm 2 gives us a powerful example.
“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed…”
— Psalm 2:2
But their rebellion cannot overturn God’s purpose.
▪️GOD’S PURPOSE CENTERS ON CHRIST
Psalm 2 is prophetic. It looks forward to the day when God establishes His Son as King over Zion:
“Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.”
— Psalm 2:6
The Father declares concerning the Son:
“Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”
— Psalm 2:7
Paul connects this declaration with Christ’s resurrection in Acts 13:33.
The resurrection demonstrates that God’s purpose concerning His Son cannot fail.
▪️RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE CONTEXT
Psalm 2 belongs to Israel’s prophetic program and points toward Christ’s future reign on earth.
That is not the same program as the present Mystery concerning the Body of Christ.
• Israel — earthly kingdom purpose
• Body of Christ — heavenly calling
• Prophecy — revealed beforehand
• Mystery — revealed through Paul
Paul tells us that today we have:
“all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ”
— Ephesians 1:3
▪️WHAT DOES THIS TEACH US?
The Godhead operates in perfect unity.
The Son honors the Father.
The Father glorifies the Son.
The Spirit makes God’s truth known.
And as members of Christ’s Body, our lives should reflect that same spirit of humility, love, and unity.
We don’t need to compete for recognition.
We don’t need to exalt ourselves.
Christ is the center. Christ is the purpose. Christ is the One who will ultimately have the preeminence.
▪️AND WHAT IS OUR MESSAGE TODAY?
Our message isn’t the gospel of the kingdom given to Israel.
Our message is the Gospel of Grace entrusted to Paul:
“Christ died for our sins… And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day…”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
Salvation is completely dependent upon Christ’s finished work, received by faith—not human performance.
So study God’s Word carefully.
Know the prophetic program.
Know the Mystery.
Know Israel.
Know the Body of Christ.
Know your identity in Christ.
And above all:
“That in all things he might have the preeminence.”
— Colossians 1:18
RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD.
EXALT CHRIST.
AND REST IN THE SUFFICIENCY OF HIS GRACE.
