The Fellowship Of The Mystery

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

When Paul speaks of the “fellowship of the mystery” (Ephesians 3:9), he is pointing to something monumental: God revealing truths previously hidden from all generations, truths meant for the Body of Christ today.

This is not about social fellowship. It is the revelation of the divine mysteries — the complete plan of God for this dispensation — made known to Paul by revelation (Ephesians 3:2–5).

1. What the Mystery Includes

The mysteries revealed to Paul define the Christian life under grace and distinguish it from Israel’s prophetic program. They include:

• Salvation by grace through faith alone

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8–9)

• One Body of believers

Jew and Gentile united in Christ as one new man (Ephesians 2:15; Galatians 3:28; 1 Corinthians 12:13)

• One baptism

Not multiple ceremonies or rituals, but Spirit baptism placing all believers into Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13)

• Living under grace, not law

“Ye are not under the law, but under grace” (Romans 6:14)

• A heavenly calling and inheritance

Seated in heavenly places with Christ (Ephesians 1:3, 2:6; Philippians 3:20)

• Unity and equality of all believers

No distinctions based on ethnicity, social status, or works (Galatians 3:28; Colossians 3:11)

• Spiritual empowerment for holy living

Christ lives in you, the Spirit equips you, and the Word renews you (Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 3:16–17; Romans 12:2)

All of these truths together are the mystery(s) revealed to Paul — God’s hidden wisdom for today.

2. Fellowship of the Mystery = God’s Revelation to Paul

Paul calls it “fellowship” (koinonia) because he was brought into partnership with God in revealing these hidden truths.

“…to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God…” (Ephesians 3:9)

This means:

• God chose Paul to understand and declare these mysteries

• Paul’s ministry is to share these truths with believers

• This revelation is distinct from prophecy, distinct from the Kingdom message, and unique to this age

3. Why the Mystery Was Hidden

God’s mysteries were hidden because they apply only to this present dispensation:

• Israel’s program was prophetic, earthly, and covenant-based

• The mysteries revealed to Paul are heavenly, spiritual, and under grace

“…which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit” (Ephesians 3:5)

It is a new revelation for a new program — the grace program of the Body of Christ.

4. Why This Matters for Believers Today

Understanding the fellowship of the mystery helps believers:

• Know their position in Christ (seated in heavenly places, fully accepted)

• Understand their identity in the Body (one new man, Jew and Gentile united)

• Live under grace, not law (Romans 6:14)

• Walk in unity, equality, and spiritual empowerment

• Grasp the full revelation of God’s plan for this age

Right division is essential. When we mix Israel’s program with the mystery revealed to Paul, confusion reigns.

Conclusion: The Mystery Fully Revealed

The fellowship of the mystery is the revelation of all the truths God revealed to Paul for this age — not just the Body of Christ, but the entirety of God’s grace program:

• One Body

• One baptism

• Salvation by faith alone

• Living under grace, not law

• Jew and Gentile united as one new man

• Spiritual empowerment for holy living

“…to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery…” (Ephesians 3:9)

This is the heart of Mid-Acts Pauline Dispensational truth: God has a distinct plan for today, revealed only to Paul, and these mysteries form the foundation of the Christian life under grace.
