Romans 11:25
“For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery… that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.”
One verse.
An entire dispensational shift.
A divine secret revealed.
Let’s walk through it slowly.
“Brethren… I would not have you ignorant”
Paul is not speaking to Israel here.
He is speaking to the Church — the Body of Christ.
And he calls this truth a mystery.
Not something mysterious.
Not something symbolic.
A mystery — a divine secret kept hidden until revealed to Paul (Rom 16:25).
This is the first mystery you encounter as you read through Paul’s epistles in order. And Paul warns us plainly:
Don’t be ignorant of it.
Don’t be wise in your own conceits.
Yet most of Christendom is.
Why?
Because they blur Israel and the Church.
They mix prophecy and mystery.
They assume the Church replaced Israel.
But Romans 11 says the opposite.
▪️Israel’s Blindness — Partial and Temporary
Paul says:
“Blindness in part is happened to Israel…”
Not total.
Not permanent.
Partial.
Some believed (Rom 11:7).
A remnant existed.
And he says:
“…until…”
That word matters.
Israel’s blindness has an expiration date.
God is not finished with that nation.
Replacement theology does not defend God’s character —
it questions it.
If God can permanently cast off Israel,
what guarantees does the Church have?
Romans 11 ends with worship:
“O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” (Rom 11:33)
Dispensational truth magnifies His faithfulness.
▪️What Was the Mystery?
Gentiles being blessed was not new.
The prophets spoke of that.
But how were Gentiles supposed to be blessed?
Through Israel’s rise (Isaiah 60:1-3).
Through a restored kingdom.
Through a priestly nation.
But what happened instead?
Israel fell (Rom 11:11-12).
And through their fall, salvation went directly to the Gentiles.
That was the secret.
Not Gentile salvation.
But Gentile salvation apart from Israel.
No priesthood nation required.
No covenant mediation required.
Today there is:
• No difference (Rom 10:12)
• One Body (1 Cor 12:13)
• One gospel (1 Cor 15:1-4)
That was never prophesied.
That was revealed.
▪️So What Is “The Fulness of the Gentiles”?
The word fulness means completion.
It does not mean God is counting up converts in heaven until a secret quota is reached.
It means a completion of a dispensational period.
It means God will finish this present arrangement —
this “But Now” season of grace (Eph 2:13; 3:2).
Right now:
• Jew and Gentile stand on equal ground.
• Access to God is through Christ alone.
• The preaching of the cross is central.
This opportunity did not exist in Times Past.
It will not function the same in the Ages to Come.
It belongs to now.
But it will not continue indefinitely.
▪️What Will Mark the End?
Not worldwide revival.
Paul never predicted that.
He predicted:
• A falling away (2 Thess 2:3)
• Perilous times (2 Tim 3:1-5)
• Doctrines of devils (1 Tim 4:1-3)
Near the end of his life he wrote:
“All they which are in Asia be turned away from me.” (2 Tim 1:15)
They had not abandoned Christ —
they had abandoned Paul’s doctrine.
That is significant.
Departure from Pauline truth began early.
And today we see the fruit:
• Law mixed with grace
• Prophecy mixed with mystery
• Israel mixed with the Body of Christ
• Pentecost treated as the Church’s birthday
Confusion everywhere.
Not growth into truth —
but drift from it.
▪️Where Are We Now?
We are living in the closing chapter of this Gentile opportunity.
Not because a secret number is almost reached.
But because apostasy dominates.
Because the gospel of grace is neglected.
Because Paul’s distinct apostleship is ignored.
The “fulness of the Gentiles” is the completion of this present grace administration.
And when it is complete —
Christ will descend.
The Body will be caught up (1 Thess 4:16-17).
And God will resume His prophetic dealings with Israel.
Romans 11:26 will unfold:
“And so all Israel shall be saved…”
Not spiritually.
Not symbolically.
Nationally.
Literally.
Faithfully.
▪️The Big Picture
God’s earthly purpose — Israel — is postponed.
God’s heavenly purpose — the Body of Christ — is being formed.
When that heavenly purpose is complete,
the prophetic clock will start ticking again.
The kingdom message will resume.
The Little Flock will be restored.
The covenants will be fulfilled.
God has not changed His mind.
He has revealed a secret.
▪️So What Do We Do?
We preach the cross.
We stand in Paul’s doctrine.
We refuse to mix programs.
We rejoice in grace.
Because this window is open —
but not forever.
The fulness of the Gentiles will come in.
And when it does —
The trumpet will sound.
The Body will rise.
And prophecy will resume.
