Most Christians today claim to follow the so-called “Great Commission” of Matthew 28 and Mark 16.
It sounds right.
It sounds biblical.
It sounds safe.
But we must slow down and ask a simple question:
👉 What gospel did that commission actually preach?
Because if we quote the Commission, we must also accept its message, its requirements, and its evidences.
▪️UNDER THE GREAT COMMISSION, SALVATION WAS:
1. By faith AND water baptism
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved…”
— Mark 16:16
Peter preached the same message at Pentecost:
“…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”
— Acts 2:38
Not faith alone.
Not grace alone.
Not Christ alone.
But faith + water baptism for salvation.
▪️AND THE EVIDENCE OF SALVATION?
Not a changed lifestyle.
Not a church membership.
Not inward fruit.
But miraculous sign gifts.
“…these signs shall follow them that believe…”
— Mark 16:17–18
Casting out devils.
Speaking with new tongues.
Healing the sick.
Surviving deadly poison.
Under that commission, signs confirmed believers and confirmed the message (Mark 16:20).
▪️THIS IS IMPORTANT, WHY?
Because what most Christians claim to follow today…
They do not actually preach.
They do not actually require.
They do not actually perform.
Most preach faith alone but claim Pentecostal authority.
Most quote Matthew 28, but preach Paul’s gospel.
Most claim the Commission, but practice the Dispensation of Grace.
They mix Israel’s orders with the Body of Christ’s doctrine, and end up with a gospel neither Israel nor Paul preached.
▪️BUT HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS
God is not the author of confusion.
He has made two programs, two agencies, two commissions, and two gospels clear when we rightly divide the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
Israel’s program = prophecy, signs, water baptism, kingdom.
Body of Christ = mystery, grace, faith alone, heavenly calling.
Different messages.
Different requirements.
Different destinations.
Same Lord.
▪️TODAY, UNDER PAUL’S GOSPEL
Salvation is not by water.
Not by signs.
Not by performance.
But by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ:
“…by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works…”
— Ephesians 2:8–9
And the evidence?
Not tongues.
Not miracles.
Not wonder-working power.
But the seal of the Spirit (Ephesians 1:13) and the new identity in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
We don’t obey the “Great Commission” today…
because we’re not in Israel’s prophetic program today.
We follow Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles (Romans 11:13),
and we preach the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24).
That’s clarity.
That’s peace.
That’s right division.
