There is a hope that cannot rust.
A hope that cannot fade.
A hope that cannot be taken from you.
Paul calls it:
“The hope which is laid up for you in heaven.”
— Colossians 1:5
Not hoped for on earth.
Not stored in Jerusalem.
Not waiting in a future kingdom.
Laid up.
Reserved.
Kept — in heaven.
And that one phrase tells you something powerful about who you are today.
▪️A Different Hope
When you rightly divide the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15), you discover something beautiful:
Israel’s hope was earthly.
• A restored kingdom.
• A throne in Jerusalem.
• The land promised to Abraham.
• The Messiah reigning on David’s throne.
That hope was real.
Prophesied.
Spoken “since the world began” (Acts 3:21).
But the Body of Christ has a different hope.
A heavenly one.
Paul says:
“Blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)
Not earthly places.
Heavenly places.
And again:
“Our conversation is in heaven.” (Philippians 3:20)
Our citizenship.
Our position.
Our destiny.
In heaven.
▪️What This Hope Is
This hope is not wishful thinking.
It is not:
• “Maybe I’ll make it.”
• “I hope I endure.”
• “I hope I’m good enough.”
No.
Under grace, hope is confident expectation based on a finished work.
“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27)
The hope is not in your performance.
The hope is not in your consistency.
The hope is Christ Himself.
And where is He?
Seated at the right hand of God.
And where are you?
“Made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:6)
That is not future tense.
That is present position.
▪️Hidden Before — Revealed Now
This heavenly hope was not spoken by the prophets.
It was part of the mystery:
“Which in other ages was not made known…” (Ephesians 3:5)
Israel looked for a kingdom on earth.
We look for a manifestation in glory.
“When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:4)
Not returning to earth to rule nations.
But appearing with Him — in glory.
That is distinct.
That is dispensational.
That is grace.
▪️Why This Matters
When you understand your hope is heavenly:
• You stop trying to build a kingdom here.
• You stop confusing prophecy with mystery.
• You stop measuring blessing by earthly success.
Your security is not in politics.
Not in possessions.
Not in circumstances.
Your treasure is already stored.
Laid up.
Safe.
Untouchable.
▪️Living in Light of That Hope
Paul says:
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:2)
Why?
Because that’s where your life is hid.
That’s where your future is secured.
That’s where your hope rests.
This doesn’t make you less useful on earth.
It makes you stable on earth.
When trials come — you are steady.
When loss happens — you are anchored.
When the world shakes — you are grounded.
Because your hope is not here.
It is laid up in heaven.
▪️Rest in This
You are not waiting to earn a place.
You already have a position.
You are not striving for acceptance.
You are already accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6).
You are not hoping to be worthy.
You are complete in Him (Colossians 2:10).
The hope laid up for you in heaven is secure because Christ is secure.
And He is not moving.
Let that settle your heart today.
Heaven is not just your destination.
It is your identity.
And that changes how you live —
right now —
under grace.
