Most Christians know we’re in a spiritual battle…
but very few understand what the battle really is, where it takes place, and why it intensifies once you learn who you are in Christ.
Paul tells us plainly:
“We wrestle not against flesh and blood…” — Ephesians 6:12
This means the struggle is not with people, governments, personalities, or circumstances… but with spiritual forces in heavenly places.
▪️A Conflict You Can’t See — But Can Definitely Feel
The moment a believer begins to:
• understand their calling
• rest in their identity in Christ
• walk in sound doctrine
…the opposition ramps up.
Satan doesn’t waste ammunition on idle saints. He targets those who understand truth and intend to walk in it.
This is why Paul tells us to “stand” — not in emotion, tradition, or self-effort — but in the doctrines of grace.
▪️Joshua as a Pattern
The book of Joshua gives a picture of this conflict.
Israel had a land to possess — occupied by enemies.
Believers today have blessings in heavenly places — also occupied by spiritual usurpers.
Joshua fought literal battles on Earth.
We fight spiritual battles in the heavenlies.
Different realm.
Same pattern.
Same need for faith.
▪️Part of God’s Larger Plan
God’s purpose isn’t just to keep you out of hell.
He saved you unto something.
He made you a member of the Body of Christ to:
• share in His life
• display His grace
• and participate in His purpose to exalt the Lord Jesus throughout heaven and earth
Salvation is the doorway — not the destination. God intends to use you now for His glory.
▪️Your Adversary Has a Mind and a Mission
Satan is not an idea, a symbol, or a force.
He is a real being with intellect, emotion, strategy, and ambition.
His primary tactic?
Get believers to abandon:
• God’s Word
• their identity in Christ
• and their calling in this dispensation
If he can disconnect you from those three realities, you’ll pose no threat.
▪️Once a Worship Leader — Now a Rebel
Scripture shows that Lucifer was originally created with beauty, wisdom, and responsibility — designed to direct creation in the worship of God.
His downfall wasn’t weakness — it was ambition.
He desired the position, glory, and authority that belonged to God alone.
Pride was the spark.
Rebellion was the result.
The invisible war began.
▪️Conclusion:
The spiritual battle you are in:
• is real
• is ongoing
• is unseen
• is doctrinal
• and is directly tied to God’s purpose for the Body of Christ
You win this war not by shouting at the devil…
but by standing in the truth of God’s Word rightly divided, believing who God has made you in Christ, and refusing to surrender ground.
“Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.” — Ephesians 6:10
Not strong in yourself — strong in Him.
