Every believer who has ever opened the Bible with a sincere heart has felt the same tension.
Some passages seem to say one thing…
Others seem to say something completely different.
One verse commands the Sabbath.
Another says:
“Let no man therefore judge you… in respect of… the sabbath days.”
— Colossians 2:16
Jesus tells His followers to sell all they have.
“Sell that ye have, and give alms…”
— Luke 12:33
But Paul writes:
“If any would not work, neither should he eat.”
— 2 Thessalonians 3:10
So we ask honest questions.
Is the Bible contradicting itself?
Is God changing His mind?
Or are we missing something?
The answer is far simpler — and far more beautiful.
The Bible is perfect.
The confusion comes when we read it as though every passage were written directly to the same people, in the same time, under the same program.
But that is not how God revealed His Word.
▪️The Key God Gave Us
God Himself tells us how to study the Scriptures.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15
Rightly dividing simply means recognizing the distinctions God placed in His Word.
It does not mean removing parts of the Bible.
It means putting each part in its proper place.
The whole Bible is for us.
But not every part of the Bible is written directly to us.
And when that truth is understood, something amazing happens:
Confusion begins to disappear.
Clarity begins to grow.
Scripture begins to harmonize.
▪️Two Programs in the Bible
From Genesis to Revelation, God reveals two major programs.
Both are true.
Both are inspired.
But they are not the same.
1. The Prophetic Program — God’s Plan for the Earth Through Israel
This program was spoken openly since the world began.
“…all his holy prophets since the world began.”
— Acts 3:21
It centers on:
• Israel as God’s chosen nation
• Covenants and promises given to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
• An earthly Kingdom where Messiah reigns
• Jerusalem as the center of the world
• The Law, the Temple, and the nation of Israel
This is the story told throughout:
• The Old Testament
• The Gospels
• The ministry of the twelve apostles
It is the prophetic program.
2. The Mystery Program — God’s Plan for Heaven Through the Body of Christ
Then something extraordinary happened.
God revealed a program that had never been spoken of before.
Paul describes it this way:
“…the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.”
— Romans 16:25
This program was:
• Hidden from the prophets
• Unknown to the twelve apostles
• Revealed directly to the apostle Paul
“How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery…”
— Ephesians 3:3
This mystery reveals:
• One Body of Jew and Gentile
• Salvation by grace through faith
• A heavenly calling
• Spiritual blessings in heavenly places
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”
— Ephesians 1:3
This is the Church, the Body of Christ.
Not a nation.
Not a kingdom people.
But a heavenly body under grace.
▪️Why Paul Matters
God gave Paul a unique ministry.
Paul calls it:
• “the dispensation of the grace of God” (Eph. 3:2)
• “the revelation of the mystery” (Rom. 16:25)
• “my gospel” (Rom. 2:16)
Paul’s letters — Romans through Philemon — contain the doctrine and instructions for the Church today.
And when we understand Paul’s role, the pieces begin to fall into place.
We learn that:
• Salvation is by grace through faith
• We are not under the law
• The Church is one Body
• Jew and Gentile are equal in Christ
• Our hope is heavenly, not earthly
Without Paul’s writings, the Bible can feel like a puzzle.
With Paul’s writings understood in their proper place, the puzzle comes together.
▪️Where Confusion Begins
Most doctrinal debates exist for one reason:
People mix Israel’s program with the Body of Christ’s program.
Confusion about:
• Baptism
• Tithing
• Tongues
• Miracles
• The Great Commission
• Prayer promises
• Losing salvation
• End-times timelines
All of it becomes tangled when prophecy and mystery are blended together.
But when the Scriptures are rightly divided, the fog lifts.
Prophecy has its promises.
The Mystery has its promises.
And they are not the same.
▪️Three Questions That Unlock the Bible
When we read Scripture, three simple questions bring clarity:
1. Who is speaking?
2. To whom are they speaking?
3. Under what dispensation or covenant does it apply?
These questions do not complicate the Bible.
They clarify the Bible.
They prevent us from applying instructions meant for another people in another time.
▪️The Bible Is a Masterpiece of Order
Paul wrote:
“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.”
— 2 Timothy 2:7
When we follow God’s method, something wonderful happens.
The Bible stops looking like a collection of contradictions.
And begins to look like a masterpiece of divine order.
Prophecy reveals God’s purpose for the earth.
The Mystery reveals God’s purpose for heaven.
Right division shows us how they fit together.
And once a believer sees it…
Once they understand the difference between prophecy and mystery…
They never read the Bible the same way again.
Not with confusion.
But with clarity.
Not with doubt.
But with confidence.
Because the key has been found:
👉 Rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
