2 Timothy 3:1
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”
Paul was not guessing.
He was not speculating.
He was preparing the Body of Christ.
These “last days” are not the prophetic last days of Acts 2.
They are the closing days of the Dispensation of Grace — the time leading up to the catching away of the Church, the Body of Christ.
Not signs in the sun and moon.
Not prophetic wrath being poured out.
But moral and spiritual collapse in a grace age that has rejected truth.
▪️What Will These Days Look Like?
Paul gives a sobering list (2 Timothy 3:2–5):
• Lovers of their own selves
• Covetous, proud, boasters
• Disobedient, unthankful, unholy
• Without natural affection
• Despisers of those that are good
• Lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God
And perhaps the most alarming:
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.”
Religion without reality.
Christian vocabulary without Pauline truth.
Church buildings without sound doctrine.
That is perilous.
▪️Two Clear Commands
Paul doesn’t just describe the culture.
He instructs the believer.
1. “Know also.”
Don’t be shocked.
Don’t be naïve.
Understand the times.
2. “From such turn away.”
Separation is not cruelty.
It is clarity.
It is guarding the truth.
▪️Not Prophecy — But Grace Nearing Its Close
The “last days” of prophecy (Acts 2) involve:
• Signs and wonders
• National Israel
• The outpouring of wrath
But the last days of grace?
No visible signs in the heavens.
No prophetic timetable.
Instead:
• Doctrinal confusion
• Spiritual decline
• Increasing human depravity
This is not God failing.
This is grace being extended.
▪️Why Is It Getting Worse?
Ecclesiastes says judgment is not executed speedily — therefore the heart of men is fully set in them to do evil.
During this dispensation:
• God is longsuffering.
• Wrath is postponed.
• Grace is offered freely.
But when judgment is delayed,
human depravity surfaces more boldly.
That is not evolution upward.
That is fallen humanity exposed.
▪️When the Church Fails
The church today is called:
“The pillar and ground of the truth.” (1 Timothy 3:15)
We are to hold truth high.
We are to make it visible.
When the Body of Christ abandons sound doctrine —
perilous times accelerate.
When the mystery is ignored —
confusion multiplies.
When grace is mixed with law —
power is denied.
▪️A Burst of Light
History shows us something powerful.
When the Word of God is restored to the people —
light breaks forth.
The Reformation was not political at its core.
It was biblical.
When Scripture was translated and placed in the hands of common people,
truth shattered darkness.
The Word liberates.
Rightly divided truth stabilizes.
Grace transforms.
▪️So What Do We Do?
We do not panic.
We do not retreat.
We do not compromise.
We:
• Know the times.
• Stand in grace.
• Rightly divide the Word (2 Timothy 2:15).
• Preach Christ according to the revelation of the mystery (Romans 16:25).
The darker it gets,
the brighter sound doctrine shines.
The closer we get to the Rapture,
the more urgent clarity becomes.
Perilous times are not a reason to fear.
They are a reason to stand.
Stand in grace.
Stand in truth.
Stand in Christ.
Because when the dispensation of grace closes —
it will close suddenly.
And until then,
we labor.
We teach.
We make all men see.
Grace is still being extended.
The door is still open.
