Grace is one of the most common words in Christianity.
We sing about it.
We preach about it.
We print it on church signs.
Amazing Grace.
Grace Fellowship.
Grace Ministries.
But for all the talk about grace, many believers still struggle to explain what grace actually is—especially according to the revelation the risen Christ gave to the Apostle Paul.
Grace is more than kindness.
Grace is more than patience.
Grace is more than God overlooking sin.
Grace is God’s present program.
And when you understand grace, the Bible begins to make sense.
▪️Grace Is God’s Program for Today
Paul writes in Ephesians 3:2:
“The dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward.”
That word dispensation means a stewardship or administration.
It means God is dealing with humanity in a particular way during this time.
Before Paul, God was dealing with Israel under the Law and prophecy.
Israel had:
• covenants
• promises
• signs and wonders
• a coming earthly kingdom
But something changed.
Through the Apostle Paul, the risen Lord revealed a message that had been:
“Kept secret since the world began.”
— Romans 16:25
This is called the Mystery.
And it explains what God is doing today.
Today:
• God is not building Israel’s earthly kingdom.
• God is not continuing the prophetic timeline.
• God is forming something new.
A new creation.
Paul describes it this way:
“To make in himself of twain one new man…”
— Ephesians 2:15
Jews and Gentiles brought together into one Body.
The Body of Christ.
Not prophecy.
Mystery.
Not Israel’s kingdom program.
The dispensation of grace.
▪️The Cross Revealed in Full Glory
In Israel’s prophetic program, the cross looked like defeat.
The Messiah was rejected.
The King was crucified.
But through Paul, the cross is revealed in its full glory.
Paul writes:
“God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
— Galatians 6:14
Why?
Because Paul’s gospel reveals something the prophets never saw.
That Christ’s death was not only connected to Israel…
It was a payment for the sins of the whole world.
Paul summarizes the gospel simply:
“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried,
And that he rose again the third day.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
Notice what is not there.
No law-keeping.
No religious ritual.
No performance.
Salvation is not earned.
It is given.
“Being justified freely by his grace…”
— Romans 3:24
The cross is not the beginning of something we must complete.
It is the completion of what Christ already finished.
▪️Grace Changes Your Identity
Grace does more than forgive your sins.
Grace gives you a new identity.
Under the Law, people worked for God’s favor.
Under grace, believers live from the favor they already have.
Paul writes:
“He hath made us accepted in the Beloved.”
— Ephesians 1:6
Not hoping to be accepted.
Made accepted.
Not working for forgiveness.
Already forgiven.
Not trying to be complete.
“Ye are complete in him.”
— Colossians 2:10
Grace changes how you see yourself.
You are not a sinner trying to become acceptable.
You are a believer placed into Christ.
And because of that:
“Sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
— Romans 6:14
Grace is not permission to live carelessly.
Grace is the power of a new life.
“The grace of God that bringeth salvation… teaching us…”
— Titus 2:11–12
Grace teaches us how to live as those who belong to Christ.
▪️Grace Explains the World Around Us
People often ask:
Why doesn’t God stop evil today?
Why doesn’t He send judgment like in the Old Testament?
Why do wicked nations still exist?
The answer is simple.
Today is not the day of wrath.
Today is the day of grace.
Paul writes:
“God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:19
God is not pouring out judgment.
He is extending reconciliation.
Not punishment.
Peace.
Not revenge.
Grace.
That is why Paul called his message:
“The gospel of the grace of God.”
— Acts 20:24
God is not reforming governments or fixing society.
He is calling out a people for Himself.
A heavenly people.
Paul says:
“Our conversation is in heaven.”
— Philippians 3:20
Our blessings are spiritual.
“Blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”
— Ephesians 1:3
Our hope is heavenly.
Our deliverance is the rapture.
“The Lord himself shall descend from heaven…”
— 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
Grace explains both the condition of the world and the purpose of God within it.
▪️Grace Will One Day Give Way to Glory
Grace is not God’s eternal program.
It is God’s present program.
Paul speaks of the “but now” of grace.
“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested…”
— Romans 3:21
But this dispensation will one day end.
When the Body of Christ is complete…
When the Lord calls us home…
God will resume His prophetic dealings with Israel.
But today, the invitation still stands.
“Be ye reconciled to God.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:20
Today is the day of salvation.
Today is the day of grace.
▪️The Message of Grace in Three Words
Paul’s gospel can be summarized in three powerful words:
Finished.
Free.
Forever.
• Finished
Because Christ fully paid for sin.
• Free
Because salvation is a gift, not a wage.
• Forever
Because we are sealed until the day of redemption.
Grace quiets your striving.
Grace silences your guilt.
Grace lifts your eyes from your failures to Christ’s finished work.
When you understand grace:
• You stop mixing Israel’s promises with the Body of Christ’s calling.
• You stop trying to earn what God already gives freely.
• You stop living in fear and start resting in Christ.
Paul says it beautifully:
“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
— Ephesians 1:6
We are not striving for blessing.
We are living from it.
We are not under wrath.
We are under grace.
We are not waiting to be forgiven.
We already are.
▪️An Invitation to Believe the Gospel
If you have never trusted Christ, God’s invitation to you is simple.
Believe the gospel that Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 15:1–4:
• Christ died for our sins
• He was buried
• He rose again the third day
Your salvation is not found in religion.
Not in good works.
Not in trying harder.
It is found in the finished work of Christ alone.
The moment you trust that gospel, God saves you by His grace and places you into the Body of Christ.
Forgiven.
Accepted.
Sealed.
This is the Message of Grace.
Believe it.
Rejoice in it.
Share it.
Grace and peace.
