The Mystery Hidden In God

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

Revealed Only to the Apostle Paul — Not Before!

(Ephesians 3:1–9; Colossians 1:25–27; Romans 16:25–26)

For thousands of years, God had a secret — something He never revealed to any prophet, patriarch, or apostle before Paul. This secret wasn’t hidden in the Scriptures… it was hidden in God Himself!

“And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God,
who created all things by Jesus Christ.”
— Ephesians 3:9

WHAT IS “THE MYSTERY”?

It’s not a “mysterious” feeling or a hidden riddle — it’s a divine revelation concerning the Body of Christ, a new creation that had no prophecy about it in the Old Testament.

Through Paul, God revealed a program separate from Israel’s prophetic kingdom program.

• Israel’s hope was earthly — the Messiah reigning from Jerusalem over all nations.
• The Body of Christ’s hope is heavenly — a spiritual position “in Christ” seated in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6).

This was not known or even hinted at before Paul. The prophets spoke of Israel’s salvation, a kingdom, judgment, and restoration. But nothing about a joint body of Jews and Gentiles, made one new man (Eph. 2:15), with Christ as the Head (Eph. 1:22–23).

THE SECRET PURPOSE OF GOD

From before the foundation of the world, God had already planned this hidden purpose — the dispensation of grace — but kept it secret until the time was right.

“Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.”
— Romans 16:25

Paul didn’t continue Peter’s message — he revealed something entirely new.
Peter preached the Messiah to Israel (Acts 2–3), offering the Kingdom that had been spoken by the prophets “since the world began” (Acts 3:21).
Paul preached the unprophesied gospel of the grace of God — a free salvation offered to all, apart from Israel, the law, or covenants.

That’s why Paul calls it “my gospel” and “the dispensation of the grace of God” (Eph. 3:2).

• A HEAVENLY PEOPLE, A HEAVENLY PROGRAM

Today, God isn’t building a kingdom on earth.
He’s forming a Body — the Body of Christ — a heavenly people, blessed “with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Eph. 1:3).

We’re not Israel. We’re not under covenants, law, or prophecy.
We are members of His Body, united by the gospel of grace, and destined to reign with Him in the heavenly places.

That’s why Paul says our citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20), and our inheritance is “far above all heavens” (Eph. 4:10).

• WHY THIS MATTERS

If we mix Israel’s prophecy program with the Body of Christ’s mystery program, we end up in confusion — trying to claim promises not meant for us, and missing the riches of grace God freely gives today.

Understanding the mystery isn’t just a “doctrinal detail” — it’s the key to rightly dividing the Word of Truth (2 Tim. 2:15).

It shows us:

• Why the church today isn’t Israel.

• Why we’re saved by grace through faith alone (Eph. 2:8–9).

• Why there are no more temple, priests, or feast days.

• Why we are complete in Christ now (Col. 2:10).

• THE MYSTERY REVEALED — NOW MADE KNOWN

God hid this truth in Himself until the revelation to Paul — but now it’s revealed and freely offered to all.

“Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations,
but now is made manifest to his saints.”
— Colossians 1:26

This is the message for today — the good news that Christ is forming a new creation, a joint-body of believers, by pure grace!

Not religion.
Not performance.
Not Israel’s law.

But Christ in you, the hope of glory (Col. 1:27).

We live in the dispensation of grace — the revelation of the mystery.
Let’s make it known to others who still think God is working through prophecy today.

“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.” — 2 Timothy 2:7
