— And God’s Answer To The Mess
When the Holy Spirit teaches us through Scripture, confusion clears, light enters, and we begin to see reality the way God intended.
And let’s be honest: we’re living in a very confused generation.
Many of us grew up in a world where the basic structures of life—marriage, family, national identity, moral values—were stable and widely understood. But the younger generations are growing up in a culture where those same God-given institutions are questioned, redefined, or rejected altogether.
The Creator Made Life to Function in an Orderly Way
From the beginning, God established four foundational institutions for human life on earth:
A. Volition — the freedom to choose, along with the responsibility for the consequences. (Gen. 2:16–17)
B. Marriage — one man and one woman, joined for life, forming the basis of social order. (Gen. 2:24; Eph. 5:31)
C. Family — children raised within the stability of marriage, passing godly values to the next generation. (Gen. 1:28; Eph. 6:1–4)
D. Nations/Government — boundaries, order, and protection so society can function. (Gen. 10; Acts 17:26)
These institutions were meant to preserve humanity from chaos. But today every one of them is under attack—marriage is redefined, family is fractured, nations are weakened, and personal responsibility is replaced by self-worship.
So the big question becomes:
How did culture become so confused?
How did we end up in this moral free-fall?
The Apostle Paul gives the clearest answer in Romans 1, which describes humanity’s downward spiral when it rejects its Creator.
1. God Made Himself Clear — Creation Leaves No Excuse
Romans 1:19–20
Every person, no matter their background, knows deep down that there is a Creator. Creation is too intricate, too intelligent, too ordered to come from nowhere.
Human conscience, human reasoning, and human spirituality all testify that we were made by Someone greater than ourselves.
But knowing there is a God is one thing… wanting Him to be God is another.
2. The First Step Down: “I Don’t Want God to Be God”
Romans 1:21
Humanity chose ingratitude over worship.
Instead of honoring God, people dismissed Him.
Instead of thanking Him, they refused His authority.
And that unthankful heart produced the next step:
3. Empty Thinking, Darkened Hearts, and Self-Worship
Romans 1:21–22
Paul says they “became vain in their imaginations.”
Meaning: they replaced truth with fantasies.
Instead of accepting reality as God defines it, people began inventing their own reality—imaginations without truth, reason, or moral grounding. And yet, in their blindness, they claimed to be wise.
Sound familiar?
A culture that denies God eventually denies reason, nature, biology, design, and morality. Once you remove the Creator, you must design your own truth. And that always collapses into confusion.
4. Once God Is Rejected, Something Else Must Take His Place
Romans 1:23, 25
Humanity became religious—but not in the right way. Instead of the true God, people worshipped:
• themselves
• human philosophy
• nature
• sexuality
• created things rather than the Creator
Religion never disappears; it is simply redirected.
5. The Downward Spiral: God “Gave Them Over”
Romans 1:24, 26, 28
Three times Paul says God “gave them up” or “gave them over.”
Not meaning He abandoned His plan— but that He allowed humanity to experience the consequences of rejecting Him.
The results?
A culture filled with confusion, brokenness, and the very behaviors we see dominate our headlines today (Rom. 1:29–32).
This is why nations weaken.
This is why families fracture.
This is why morality collapses.
Sin is not just “bad behavior.”
It is open war against the Creator.
And Paul concludes: “All are under sin”—Jew and Gentile alike. (Rom. 3:9)
6. The Verdict: Guilty Before God
Romans 3:10–19
No one is righteous.
No one seeks God.
All humanity is guilty as charged.
This is where every person stands in Adam:
• lost,
• condemned,
• and unable to fix themselves.
But the story doesn’t end there.
7. BUT NOW — God Reveals the Answer for Our Mess
Romans 3:21 (the great Mid-Acts phrase!)
“But now” marks a dispensational shift— a change in how God deals with humanity.
Under the law, righteousness was required.
Under grace, righteousness is provided.
God offers salvation and peace not through our performance, but through the finished cross-work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
8. Christ Died for Us While We Were Still His Enemies
Romans 5:8
When we were rebels, He loved us.
When we were hostile, He pursued us.
When we were at war with Him, Christ died for us.
No religion in the world invents a God like this.
Humans create gods in their own image— powerful, controlling, self-centered.
But the God of the Bible is different:holy, righteous, and yet full of grace.
He entered humanity in the Person of Jesus Christ,paid the full penalty of our sin,and rose again to offer life freely.
9. Justification Is Free Because Christ Paid It All
Romans 3:24–26
God can be both just (dealing with sin perfectly) and the justifier (declaring the believer righteous) because the blood of Christ fully satisfied His justice.
Christ was:
• delivered for our offenses (Rom. 4:25)
• raised again for our justification (Rom. 4:25)
His resurrection is God’s receipt stamped across human history: PAID IN FULL.
10. The Only Response God Requires: BELIEVE
Romans 3:26 Ephesians 2:8–9 1 Corinthians 15:1–4
Salvation today is not by works, law-keeping, religion, tradition, or sacraments.
In the dispensation of grace, God saves anyone who simply trusts that Christ died for their sins, was buried, and rose again.
The moment you trust Christ alone:
• You are justified.
• You have peace with God.
• You receive His righteousness.
• You are sealed with the Spirit.
• You become part of the Body of Christ—the new creation, not Israel.
Conclusion: THE WORLD IS IN A MESS — BUT GOD OFFERED A WAY OUT
Humanity’s rebellion created the confusion we see today.
But the cross of Christ provides the only true peace—peace with God now, and the hope of glory ahead.
