When we open Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John,
we are standing on holy ground.
But we must also stand on rightly divided ground.
If we don’t, confusion follows.
If we do, clarity shines.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15)
This isn’t optional.
It’s essential.
▪️A Ministry Centered on Grace
Before diving into doctrine, it’s worth remembering something simple:
The message of grace must be supported, preserved, and proclaimed.
Faithful ministries labor to send sound teaching across the world — even into places where materials are scarce but hunger for truth is great.
Grace is free.
But getting the message out requires faithfulness.
And that matters.
▪️Jesus — Minister of the Circumcision
Romans 15:8 tells us plainly:
“Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers.”
That verse settles it.
During His earthly ministry, Jesus was sent to Israel.
Not to start the Body of Christ.
Not to reveal the Mystery.
But to confirm prophecy.
He came to:
• Fulfill covenant promises
• Call Israel to repentance
• Present the Kingdom
Gentile blessing at that time flowed through Israel, just as the prophets foretold (Isa. 60:1–3).
Different audience.
Different program.
Same faithful God.
▪️The Gospel of the Kingdom
John the Baptist preached:
“Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matt. 3:2)
Jesus preached the same (Matt. 4:17).
This was not vague spirituality.
It was the long-promised Davidic Kingdom.
Daniel 9’s timeline was reaching fulfillment.
Prophecy was ripening.
The King was present.
The message was simple:
Repent.
The Kingdom is near.
That is not the same message Paul later calls:
“The gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24)
The kingdom gospel focused on Israel’s national repentance and earthly restoration.
The grace gospel centers on Christ’s finished crosswork for Jew and Gentile alike.
We must not blur the two.
▪️Signs Confirming the Message
Why the miracles?
Why heal the sick?
Why cast out devils?
Why cleanse lepers?
Because signs confirmed identity.
“These signs shall follow…” (Mark 16:17)
The miracles demonstrated:
• Messiah had come
• Satan’s captivity was being challenged
• The Kingdom was legitimate
The signs were not random displays of power.
They authenticated the King and His offer.
▪️A Literal, Earthly Kingdom
The Kingdom Jesus preached was not symbolic.
Not mystical.
Not postponed to heaven.
It was:
• A throne in Jerusalem
• A restored Israel
• Righteous rule over the nations
Exactly as promised to David (2 Sam. 7:12–16).
The disciples understood that much.
That’s why even after the resurrection they asked:
“Wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6)
They were not confused about the nature of the Kingdom.
They were still expecting it.
▪️The Disciples’ Limited Understanding
But here is something crucial:
They did not yet understand the cross.
Luke 18:34 says plainly:
“They understood none of these things.”
They were preaching the Kingdom —
not the cross as the basis of personal salvation.
That truth — Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection as the gospel for today —
is clearly defined later:
“Christ died for our sins… was buried… rose again.” (1 Cor. 15:3–4)
That message was committed to Paul.
Not because the cross changed.
But because the administration changed.
▪️The Danger of Not Rightly Dividing
If we mix these programs:
• We confuse works and grace.
• We misapply Kingdom commands to the Body of Christ.
• We chase signs instead of resting in Scripture.
Worst of all?
We can distort the simplicity of grace.
Salvation today is not:
Repent and prepare for an earthly kingdom.
It is:
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31).
Trust the finished work.
Rest in grace.
▪️Why This Matters
When we understand that Jesus’ earthly ministry was to Israel under prophecy…
And that the revelation of the Mystery was later given to Paul (Eph. 3:1–9)…
The Bible harmonizes.
No contradictions.
No forced explanations.
No spiritual gymnastics.
Just divine order.
Same Bible.
Different administrations.
Kingdom then.
Grace now.
And when we see that distinction clearly,
we don’t diminish Christ.
We magnify Him.
Because we see Him:
• As Israel’s Messiah
• As Head of the Body
• As the center of every dispensation
Right division is not about division for its own sake.
It’s about clarity.
Clarity protects grace.
Clarity guards the gospel.
Clarity brings peace.
And peace comes when we rest
not in religious confusion…
but in the finished work
of the risen Christ.
