— Not What Religion Says
One of the greatest privileges in life is to open the Scriptures and actually understand them for yourself.
Not because a denomination told you how to read it…
not because a tradition demanded that you follow their system…
but because the Word of God itself becomes clear when you study it the way God tells you to study it.
Many believers spend years—some even entire lifetimes—wandering through various religious programs hoping to find clarity.
They try sacramental systems… prophetic churches… emotional experiences… and still feel empty.
Why?
Because none of those things give the one thing God promises to give the sincere student:
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)
That freedom comes when you study the Bible God’s way:
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
Right division is the key that unlocks everything.
Time Past — The Program of Israel (Ephesians 2:11–12)
Paul reminds Gentiles to “remember” what God was doing long before the Body of Christ existed.
👉In Time Past:
Humanity was divided into two groups:
• the circumcision (Israel)
• and the uncircumcision (Gentiles) (Eph. 2:11)
Israel had the covenants, the promises, the law, and the Messiah (Rom. 9:4–5)
Gentiles were without Christ, without hope, and without God (Eph. 2:12)
From Genesis through the earthly ministry of Christ in Matthew–John, God is carrying out a program with the nation Israel. When Jesus said He was sent “unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matt. 15:24), He meant it.
In early Acts, even with Christ risen and the Spirit given, Israel is still God’s national channel (Acts 1–7). The “middle wall of partition” (Eph. 2:14) is still standing.
When Did Everything Change?
Not at the cross.
Not in Acts 2.
Not when the apostles preached at Pentecost.
Israel stumbled at Christ (Rom. 9:32), but God did not immediately set them aside (Rom. 11:11).
Not until Israel rejected the testimony of the Holy Spirit through Stephen (Acts 7) does the nation fall—and immediately after, Christ saves Saul of Tarsus by pure grace (Acts 9).
This is the beginning of something God had kept secret:
“The revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.” (Romans 16:25)
That mystery program is not found in prophecy:
Peter preached what was “spoken by the prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:21)
Paul preached what was “kept secret since the world began” (Rom. 16:25)
Those two programs cannot be the same.
👉But Now — The New Program: The Body of Christ
In Ephesians 2:13, Paul announces a dramatic shift:
“But now… you who were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.”
God is no longer dealing with mankind on the basis of Israel’s national status. Jew and Gentile are placed together—equal—into one new man, the Church, the Body of Christ (Eph. 2:15–16).
This new creation is not Israel.
It is not spiritual Israel.
It is not a continuation of Israel.
It is something that had never existed before:
“In me first…” (1 Timothy 1:16)
Paul was the first member of the Body of Christ and the pattern for everyone who would be saved in this dispensation (1 Tim. 1:16).
If Paul is first, then no one before him was part of the Body of Christ.
👉The Ages to Come — The Future Fulfillment (Ephesians 2:7)
Paul describes three great divisions of God’s timeline:
• Time Past — Israel’s program
• But Now — the dispensation of grace, the Body of Christ
• Ages to Come — Israel’s promises fulfilled in the Kingdom, and our heavenly purpose fulfilled in glory
Each program has:
• different instructions
• different promises
• different agencies
• different destinies
That’s why mixing them creates confusion and legalism.
Prophecy vs. Mystery — Why It Matters
Prophecy (Israel’s program):
• revealed since the world began
• earthly kingdom (Acts 3:19–21; Luke 1:32–33)
• Jesus Christ as Israel’s King
• covenants, signs, and wonders
• Israel above the nations
Mystery (Body of Christ):
• hidden since the world began (Col. 1:26)
• heavenly position and destiny (Eph. 2:6–7)
• one new man, neither Jew nor Gentile (Gal. 3:28)
• salvation by grace alone through faith alone
• Christ as Head of the Body (Eph. 1:22–23)
If you try to force Matthew 28 or Mark 16 onto the Body of Christ, you lose the distinctiveness of the gospel of grace.
You lose the very truth that sets people free.
Grace is destroyed the moment you blend it with law:
“If by grace, then is it no more of works…” (Romans 11:6)
Why This Matters to You Today
Right division is not a theological hobby.
It is spiritual freedom.
It frees you from legalism.
It frees you from fear-based Christianity.
It frees you from trying to claim promises God never made to you.
It frees you to rest in what Christ has already accomplished.
The gospel for today is simple:
Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
And the moment you trust Him, God places you into His new creation, the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13).
No rituals.
No covenants.
No performance system.
Just grace.
If you want to understand the Bible—and walk in the freedom God designed for you—you must begin where God Himself says to begin:
Rightly divide the word of truth.
Follow Paul as he followed Christ.
Stand fast in the liberty of grace.
