Paul does not write Romans 8 to make believers nervous.
He writes it to make us rest.
To breathe.
To stand firm in grace.
Listen to the questions:
“If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31)
“Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect?” (Rom. 8:33)
“Who is he that condemneth?” (Rom. 8:34)
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (Rom. 8:35)
These are not anxious questions.
They are courtroom questions.
They are victory questions.
They are grace-settling-the-matter questions.
1. If God Be For Us…
Under the Law, Israel asked, “Is the LORD among us, or not?”
But in this dispensation of grace, the cross answers that forever.
Romans 8:32 says:
“He that spared not his own Son… how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
God is not undecided about you.
The cross settled that.
Grace settled that.
2. Who Shall Lay Anything to the Charge?
Notice the setting.
Accusation.
Condemnation.
Charges brought forward.
But Paul says:
“It is God that justifieth.” (Rom. 8:33)
Not your feelings.
Not your performance.
Not your consistency.
God justifies.
And when God declares you righteous in Christ,
no higher court exists.
That is not arrogance.
That is grace.
3. Who Is He That Condemneth?
Romans 8:34 answers:
“It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again…”
The One who could condemn you
is the very One who died for you.
Think about that.
The Judge became your Substitute.
The Righteous One became your Sin-bearer.
In this present dispensation,
we stand complete in Him (Col. 2:10).
Not probationary.
Not temporary.
Complete.
4. Who Shall Separate Us?
Tribulation?
Distress?
Persecution?
Famine?
Sword?
Paul piles the words high on purpose.
Because grace is stronger than all of them.
He concludes:
“Nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:39)
Nothing means nothing.
Not your past.
Not your weakness.
Not spiritual powers.
Not future events.
▪️Grace Produces Rest
Paul wants believers to rest, not fear.
Rest in justification.
Rest in identification with Christ.
Rest in a secure position in the Body of Christ.
This is mystery truth.
This is Pauline ground.
This is grace territory.
And grace does not tremble.
It stands.
So when fear whispers,
answer with Romans 8.
When condemnation shouts,
answer with Romans 8.
When insecurity rises,
answer with Romans 8.
These are not doubts.
They are victory questions.
And every one of them
points to the same conclusion:
You are secure in Christ.
Rest there.
