Water Baptism, Feast Days, Tongues, and Healing Signs

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

Were Part of Israel’s Program — Not the Body of Christ’s

One of the biggest reasons believers struggle with confusion today is because they read every command, sign, and practice in the Bible as if it were written directly to them.

But God tells us:

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

Right division is not dividing the Bible into truth and error.

It is distinguishing God’s programs.

Israel is not the Body of Christ.
Prophecy is not the mystery.
Law is not grace.
Earthly hope is not heavenly hope.

And when those distinctions are ignored, confusion follows.

Take water baptism.

John baptized.
Jesus’ disciples baptized.
Peter preached:

“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”
— Acts 2:38 KJV

That belonged within Israel’s prophetic kingdom program.

But later Paul says:

“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel…”
— 1 Corinthians 1:17 KJV

That should cause us to ask questions.

Not:
“How do we force these together?”

But:

“What changed?”

The answer is:
A new dispensation.
A new revelation.
The mystery revealed to Paul.

• Israel’s program involved ceremonial washings and kingdom preparation.
• The Body of Christ is identified by Spirit baptism into one Body.

“For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body…”
— 1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV

Not water.

Spirit baptism.

Performed by God Himself the moment we trust Christ.

Now consider feast days.

Israel had:

• Passover
• Pentecost
• Tabernacles
• Sabbaths
• Holy days

All connected to prophecy, covenants, and Israel’s national program.

But Paul tells believers:

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday…”
— Colossians 2:16 KJV

Notice:

The Body of Christ is not under Israel’s religious calendar.

Why?

Because we are under grace.

Not covenant law.

Then there are tongues and healing signs.

Acts records miraculous signs.

The apostles healed.
People spoke in known languages.
Signs confirmed God’s dealings with Israel.

Paul writes:

“For the Jews require a sign…”
— 1 Corinthians 1:22 KJV

Signs belonged to a prophetic context.

They authenticated God’s kingdom dealings.

Yet many believers today spend years chasing experiences God never instructed the Body of Christ to pursue.

The focus shifts from Christ’s finished work to signs.

From grace to experience.

From doctrine to emotion.

But God’s present purpose is different.

Today, God is building the Church, the Body of Christ.

Not through signs.

Through the gospel.

And what is that gospel?

“That Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day:”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 KJV

That is the power of God unto salvation today.

Not tongues.
Not feast-keeping.
Not water rituals.
Not miraculous signs.

Christ.

Only Christ.

And this does not mean those things in Scripture were meaningless.

Far from it.

They belonged to a real program with a real purpose.

• Israel’s kingdom program
• Prophetic fulfillment
• Earthly promises
• Covenant expectations

But the Body of Christ has something distinct:

A heavenly calling.

“Blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:”
— Ephesians 1:3 KJV

That is our identity.

Not under law.
Not under signs.
Not under Israel’s ordinances.

In Christ.

Sadly, much confusion in Christianity comes from blending God’s programs together.

Mix prophecy with mystery…

…and believers become unsure about baptism.

Mix law with grace…

…and believers lose assurance.

Mix Israel with the Body of Christ…

…and heavenly hope becomes earthly expectation.

But right division brings clarity.

The Bible begins to fit.

Not because verses are removed—

But because each truth is allowed to stand where God placed it.

The issue today is not:

“Have I kept feast days?”
“Have I spoken in tongues?”
“Have I received a sign?”
“Have I undergone a ritual?”

The issue is:

Have you trusted Christ alone?

Because in this Dispensation of Grace, salvation is by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ.

And the moment you believe:

• You are justified
• You are sealed
• You are placed into Christ
• You become part of a heavenly Body with a heavenly destiny

That is not Israel’s program.

That is grace.

Pure grace.
