When Paul says:
“For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:52
What does that trumpet sound mean?
And why do some Bible teachers speak of two trumpet soundings connected with the Rapture?
These are not two different prophetic trumpets and should not be confused with the trumpet judgments in Revelation.
Rather, the teaching is that Paul describes two distinct moments in the Rapture sequence.
▪︎ FIRST — THE DEAD IN CHRIST
Paul says:
“The dead shall be raised incorruptible…”
— 1 Corinthians 15:52
The trumpet sounds, and those who have died in Christ are raised with incorruptible bodies.
Their earthly body is no longer subject to corruption, weakness, sickness, or death.
• The dead in Christ are raised.
• They receive incorruptible bodies.
• Death is swallowed up in victory.
Then comes the second part.
SECOND — WE WHICH ARE ALIVE
Paul continues:
“And we shall be changed.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:52
Those believers who are alive when Christ comes for His Body will not need to experience physical death first.
They will be changed.
Paul also writes:
“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air…”
— 1 Thessalonians 4:17
So the sequence can be understood this way:
• The dead in Christ are raised and receive incorruptible bodies.
• Those alive in Christ are changed.
• Together, the entire Body of Christ is caught up to meet the Lord in the air.
▪︎ DON’T MIX THE PROGRAMS
This is where right division matters.
The Rapture revealed through Paul belongs to the Mystery program, not Israel’s prophetic kingdom program.
Israel has an earthly prophetic expectation.
The Body of Christ has a heavenly calling.
Israel’s program involves prophetic signs and events associated with Christ’s earthly kingdom.
But Paul reveals something that had been “kept secret since the world began” (Romans 16:25).
Our hope is not based upon keeping the Law, enduring the Tribulation, or following Israel’s prophetic program.
Our hope rests in Christ and His finished work.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
— Ephesians 2:8
And our salvation is grounded in the Gospel Paul received:
“Christ died for our sins… And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day…”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
So don’t confuse Paul’s trumpet with the trumpets of Israel’s prophetic program.
Right division protects us from mixing what God has separated.
The question isn’t merely, “What does the trumpet mean?”
The bigger question is:
▪︎ “WHERE DO I FIT IN GOD’S PROGRAM?”
Today, we are members of the Body of Christ, saved by grace through faith, complete in Christ, and blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places.
And when that trumpet sounds, whether we are asleep in Christ or alive and remaining, our destiny is the same: to be caught up together with Him.
THE DEAD WILL BE RAISED.
THE LIVING WILL BE CHANGED.
THE BODY WILL BE CAUGHT UP.
AND CHRIST WILL HAVE THE VICTORY.
That is our blessed hope in Christ.
