Where Will We Spend Eternity?

Written by Ralph Mark B. Malinao

Heaven or Earth?

One of the most pressing questions in Christian life is: Where will we spend eternity? Will it be on the earth or in the heavens? Rightly dividing the Word of Truth gives amazing clarity on this and every Scripture. 📖✨

🔹 God’s Purposes: Israel vs. the Body of Christ

Israel’s Purpose: 🌍

• God’s covenant with Israel is earth-focused. His plan involves placing His kingdom on the earth.

• This is reflected in the Lord’s Prayer: “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).

• The promises to Israel point toward an earthly, kingdom-centered hope (Acts 1:6).

The Body of Christ’s Purpose: ☁️

• God’s purpose for us, the Body of Christ, is heavenly.

• Our home is eternal in the heavens, not the earth (II Corinthians 5:1).

• The rapture takes us from the earth to meet the Lord in the air (I Thessalonians 4:13-18), and we will bear the image of the heavenly (I Corinthians 15:40, 49–53).

🔹Seated in Heavenly Places

• Ephesians 2:5-7: “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ… and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.”

• “Ages to come” (plural) points to the tribulation, the 1,000-year reign, and the eternal ages beyond. 🌌

• God’s purpose is for the Body of Christ to fulfill His plan and reconcile heaven (Colossians 1:15-20).

🔹 The Role of the Body of Christ

• Reconciliation in Heaven: Revelations 12:7-8 shows Michael and his angels fighting the dragon. The dragon and his angels were cast out—“their place was no more found in heaven”. Why? Because the Body of Christ has filled their place, carrying out God’s heavenly plan. ✨💫

• Our salvation displays God’s grace—not works, not merit (Romans 11:6; Ephesians 2:8-10).

• Grace through faith alone makes us worthy vessels in the heavenly realm.

🔹 Salvation and Grace

• Ephesians 3:1-5 reveals the dispensation of the grace of God.

• Grace is undeserved, unmerited favor. We cannot earn it; it is received through faith (Romans 4:4-5).

• Ephesians 2:5-10 connects our heavenly position with grace-based salvation, making it clear:

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

• Salvation and heavenly seating go hand-in-hand: we are seated in Christ to display His grace to the angelic realm. 👼✨

🔹 Key Takeaway

• Israel’s hope = earthly kingdom 🌍

• Body of Christ = heavenly glory ☁️

• Salvation = by grace through faith alone, so we may display God’s glory in the heavenly realm (Ephesians 2:8–10).

Understanding this distinction clarifies eternal destiny, God’s plan, and the nature of salvation, ensuring we honor His purpose and live in the fullness of His grace. ✨🙌
