You Must Unlearn
One of the hardest parts of spiritual growth isn’t learning new truth…
It’s unlearning the old.
Not every idea we absorbed came from Scripture.
Not every doctrine we embraced came from God.
Not every tradition we practiced came from truth.
Paul warned that this world system has a way of shaping our thinking without our permission:
“Be not conformed to this world…”
— Romans 12:2
And Jesus warned about the danger of religious tradition replacing God’s Word:
“…ye make the word of God of none effect through your tradition…”
— Mark 7:13
▪️So what must we unlearn?
Not Christ.
Not Scripture.
Not sound doctrine.
But the things that compete with it:
• Religion without revelation
• Traditions without truth
• Denominationalism without doctrine
• The present evil world without discernment
These things sound spiritual.
They feel familiar.
They seem harmless.
But they can blind us to what God actually says.
▪️THE SOLUTION IS NOT IGNORANCE — BUT RIGHTLY DIVIDED TRUTH
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15
Right division does not erase Scripture.
It organizes Scripture.
It clarifies Scripture.
It honors Scripture.
Because God never asked us to mix everything together.
He asked us to rightly divide what He has spoken.
▪️SCRIPTURE IS OUR AUTHORITY
Not opinion.
Not tradition.
Not denomination.
Not experience.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God…”
— 2 Timothy 3:16–17
When Scripture is believed, the fog lifts.
When Scripture is divided, the confusion ends.
When Scripture is trusted, the heart finds rest.
▪️THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS BOTH LEARNING AND UNLEARNING
Unlearning what man said.
Learning what God said.
Unlearning religious performance.
Learning identity in Christ.
Unlearning human wisdom.
Learning divine revelation.
That’s how transformation happens —
from the inside out, by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).
▪️IN A WORLD FULL OF NOISE… RETURN TO THE WORD
Not just any word.
Not just any version.
But the Word rightly divided, preached by the apostle of the Gentiles (Romans 11:13), centered in the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24), and preserved for us today.
You can’t walk in truth until you’re willing to unlearn the lies.
Keep learning.
Keep unlearning.
Keep rightly dividing.
